I am interested in having a 45-70 converted and was looking at the Optima Elite. How well are these for converting? I can get the entire gun for less than the T/C Encore frame! I looked at the H&R Ultra Hunter and their prices range from $390-$430 depending on where you get it. The Optima Elites were all priced from $270-$300. Which way should I go?

been shooting my conversion. (slufoot did it). I bought my gun on clearance last year for $225. $110ish for breechplug and machining. It is liking 200 SST. I am trying to make some existing powders work with out having to buy a can of H4198. I am shooting H322 (60 gr) and experimenting with 5744/H322 duplex (10/50). Trying to get the Barnes 195 to fly decent. will be shooting a bit more later today. My 10ML will be for sale after i get this one dialed Attachments:

So far all I have shot is 200 SST out of my Elite. I have to knurl them and wait between shots. With the temps cooling down I would say you wouldn't have to wait as much however I haven't been able to shoot since the last time I was out when it was in the 60's. After the season I plan on trying sabotless so I will try to have more info after December.

I was looking at gunbroker to see if I could find any deals on the Optima Elite and only found one for $500 so the prices you are showing are a lot better. I did come across this gun and I feel it is worth watching for the price it is at. You can always add different stocks but I have read other members where they have shot this with good results. www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=315926034RR

the only issue with that gun on gun broker is that it does not appear to be drilled and tapped for a scope base

One thing I forgot to mention is that the Optima Elite is a discontinued gun and will be hard to find barrels for it. If you are wanting to get an Optima Elite you better make sure you can get the 45-70 barrel for it before you get anything else. Just a suggestion. Good luck!!

Has CVA discontinued their CF's? I don't see any on their web page.

For the Optima Elite they are not making any more barrels to fit it however I have heard that if you call them they might make the barrel for you or might be able to find one. I wanted the 300 mag but I wasn't able to find one for it. When I get more serious about getting one I will probably call them and see if they can get one for me. They have moved on to their new model as far as barrels and are not producing barrels for the Elite any more.
