With Rangeball working on his all copper design bullet,I decided to see if I could find someone to make a jacketed bullet with high bc and a core that wouldn't fragment that would be shot smokeless in a sabot. I have someone interested but me being a greenhorn I really don't know EXACTLY what the guys here want. The base built for the lightblue harvester sabot and jacketed for velocity range from 2800 to 3000 ft/sec. Weight range? I am thinking about a semi-cone shaped hollowpoint that will be made to shoot with or without a High bc inserted point. Any suggestions , I know that all of this stuff and more was thoroughly discussed in Rangeballs bullet post, but the prospective maker will be checking out Dougs this weekend to see what kind of suggestions are made for the magic bullet for the .45 saboted round. Any links to photos of desired profiles of bullets would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks for any suggestions, Greenhorn

I sent you a pm but although I've never seen one in person the .40 dead center without the boat tail may be a good starting point?
Unless he can also source the tips I wouldn't worry about them. Just have a hollow point similar in size to the spitfire.
Looking at my notes, a lead bullet with a secant ogive with a 6 radius that is 1.1" long would weight 257 with a predicted bc of .365 and stablize up to 1:29. Having a jacket should reduce the weight somewhat. If you can get it around 220-240 that should be great.
Like Edge mentioned long ago, the goal should be easier with lead, I just don't have the means to pursue it.

For greenhorn- www.prbullet.com/pts.htmI was looking back through emails I had with Dave Corbin checking to see the recommended SG to use for a jacketed lead bullet and see I missed the last one he sent me. It is a very large list of bullet makers using his equipment, many it seems are doing .40 bullets. If your lead doesn't pan out let me know and I'll start reaching out to these guys.

Can you provide that link again here, thanks. After a design is thought up, he is going to see if he has a mold similar to what we need and alter it if at all possible. If not he will see how much to retool and give me a price on doing it. I guess we need to discuss how much would a performance bullet be AFFORDABLE to buy. These won't be midways blems you know, lol. You put the links up before I got done here Rangeball Thanks.

I would just like to try a 230gr-240gr soft point with roughly a .17 metaplat. Fairly soft lead core and a .025 jacket or a HP with upto a .032 jacket. I tried some Hawks 40-225gr HPs but IMO the .025 jacket was a bit thin but not too bad at sub speeds.

How did the hawks shoot ? accuracy wise ? So the .25 jacket was too thin , was it fragmenting like a 250sst or what? Is .32 going to be thick enough for 2800-3000 ft/sec? Thanks for the input GMB.

The Hawks were ok in a sub gun but expansion would have been too much any faster. IMO the same bullet in a flat point might have been ok with a .025 jacket. They offer either thickness but some combos are considered "custom" and a minimum of 3 boxes. The offer some .40X rifle bullets than might work if run through a .401 die. I would like to try what i mentioned to find out if it works. Close to a true .250 BC would be plenty for me but others might want more. This was with my max BH209 load at close range. I doubt it would hold upto the speeds you are talking about.

Go Go Go GH!!! This is very exciting. I would pay up to 2 bucks a bullet for one that shot great out of my 45 PN , had great term. performance and a high BC. A couple or three shots a year to verify POI and then hunt with it. A box of 50 would last most hunters many years. There are a lot of cheap bullets for fun shooting. JM2
