I dont understand why you had so much drop at 300 yds. with 70 grns of 4198 when I had only 20 in max. with 60 grns of N120.I shot the N120 exclusively for 3 seasons..2 with the .50 and last year with the .45 and have noticed no temp sensitivity at all in a wide range of temps. N120 has proven it self to me beyond doubt and is this only powder I use...this sounds like a Jim Hockey commercial... ;D Dunno, were you shooting over 2400FPS? The Horn. ballistic calculator show exactly that much drop also. I was shooting into a 1/4 value 3mph headwind, which may have done something, but the calculator just takes into consideration full value drift.

I am not sure but i never have any problems in the cold with 4198 in the .50 or the .45 but then again the teens is about as cold as I have used them in, others will chime in...bill Sounds good, I usually do not get below 10 degrees.

That explains it then as I am 3.5+ @ 100 yds and just shy of 2400 fps. I hold 2-3 in +on a deers back @ 300 yds and adjust for wind drift=dead deer.

70g of H4198 will be fine with a 300g bullet in a tight fitting sabot at 10deg F. I shot quite a few 67g loads with the BO/BCR combo in temps in the low teens. 50degF = 2400 fps, 10deg F = 2340 give or take in my gun. IMHO you are shooting one of best loads you can shoot in the 50 cal.

Thanks for the confidence, now that i know it works well down that low. I agree about it being one hell of a load.
