Can't get savage_barrels.com to come up. Anybody else have a problem with it? JohnP are you putting it as savage_barrels.com or savage-barrels.com (notice the dash or underscore). It is savage-barrels.com. If you need any help let me know.

To use one the two barrel contours (DMB) is there an additional custom contour charge of $30? There will be no upcharge for the DMB-1 or DMB-2 contours. McGowens machinist is going to program them as standard contours.

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to everyone on this. fishhawk called and talked to McGowen the other day and afterwards I talked to McGowen to confirm. fishhawk and McGowen came to the consensus to do 2 standard contours for Doug's Message Board. These contours will be done as "standard" contours meaning that there will be no upcharge for any of them, other than the normal surcharge for finished barrels over 26".
The contours are as follows (fishhawk can correct me if I have one of the dimensions incorrect)
DMB-1 1.200" for 3" tapering in 3" to .950" then tapering to .800" at the muzzle
DMB-2 1.200" for 3" tapering straight to .800" at the muzzle. This contour is basically similar to a target or varmint style contour.
I had asked previously for everyone's input on a muzzle chamfer, can you give me this information (i.e. the angle (60 degree or ?)
We are also looking at the parts and pieces that have been mentioned here before concerning plugs and lugs.
If anyone has any input please email me at products@savage-barrels.com so that I can forward to McGowen so we are all on the same page.

Jon, I just examined my Pacnor, it has what I would guess to be about a 45 degree chamfer that is only about .010" wide at the grooves, and about .020 wide at the lands. It is added to a target crown. It only has to be wide enough to take the sharp edge off the lands to prevent shaving plastic off the sabot during loading. Anything from 45-60 degrees would work but keep the cut narrow.

placed the order today with savage barrels. I went with a 6 groove barrel instead of 8. we will see which will be better. I decided since the 6 groove pacnor shoots so well we need to compare apples with apples......will be interesting..Bill

Just got an e-mail from Dan at McGowen, they do still have Mike Dawsons action, bolt, breech plug, and lug. They are currently measuring them to program their CNC machines for the DMB barrels. We are shooting for .003-.012" area for breech plug primer pocket removal to get proper headspace. Getting closer every day!

I just got this e-mail from Jon at savage-barrels.com.
Hi Greg, Just got off the phone with Dan at McGowen and he said they have perfected the ML pre-fit prototype. In addition to offering any contour available on the market, they have programmed both the DMB # 1 & DMB # 2. You guys can order without the hassle of sending any breech plugs or recoil lugs. Also, the have made the essential adjustments for the bolt kits. So have away gents ! It's official, McGowen is ready to rock n roll. I have put in an inventory order of 10 uncontoured 45 cal blanks. That way the guys can get a jump on quicker delivery times. Available in both 6 & 8 grooves. Also, I have both chrome moly and stainless available. It's all custom so the sky is the limit. Thanks again for all you have done to help lead us in the right direction. I am looking forward to getting these barrels out there so you all can appreciate the craftsmanship the boys at McGowen are capable of delivering. Thanks again, Jon
