Hi guys, I got to the range today. 2nd time out with the Rem. McGowen 45 cal. 65 degrees with light rain. First target (right) was using CCIm primers, 58 gr. H4198, 195 gr. Barnes. First shot is the one to the right out of a clean barrel. Last three shots at 1". 2nd target (left) is with same primer/powder but with 200 gr. Hornady SST's- 5 shots under 1". I did not have my chrony along. I shot these off bipods. I am very happy. This rifle has not yet been bedded. I doubt I will shoot a better group, but you never know, I will sure have fun trying! Rob

Hoz, send it to me and I will pillar and bed it. IT WILL tighten it up even more. its nice to see that these barrels have potential. A sigh of relief came over me when I looked at these targets ;D. seriously, pillaring and bedding will make this rig a tacdriver

Bill,
The rig is a tackdriver, its the guy behind it that needs some work. I think this gun can outshoot me allready! Sure is FUN!

Very glad to see it. I can see why your smiling. It can only get better if that is possible. And that is off bipods.

Pretty dang tight, do you have access to a 200yd shot? 100 yds is going to get boring if you keep that up,lol. Happy for you Hoz, Greenhorn

Hoz, my McGowen 18'' twist likes a grain or two more powder for the 195's. The 195 Barnes have worked just as well and maybe a little better some days at 200 yards than the 200 XTP's. Kick the snot out of them Barnes.

after pillaring and bedding Robs gun I decided to take it to the range this morning along with the boat anchor and the new vortex. I started with 60 grns 4198 and 200 sst harv smooth blue/ fed 209a combo. after taking the plug out and giving it the ole eyeball boresight this the first group[img src="http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn218/billsheliatravis/DSC_0239.jpg" img] I did little waiting betweem shots as #s 4-6 opened up pretty bad but 1-3 were respectable, then I fired a 3 shot group[img src="http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn218/billsheliatravis/DSC_0236.jpg" img] this is about 5/8 c-c, on these I waited about 10 min between shots. will the mcgowens shoot? I think so....any fears should be put to rest. this barrel loads very consistent/smooth....Rob I think you will enjoy it.... the boat anchor got its turn too but the wind was getting up pretty bad as it was about to rain[img src="http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn218/billsheliatravis/DSC_0237.jpg" img]this was left over hunting loads from last year and then some 4198, the first three were with 60 and #4 was a left over of 62 and was my last load so I fired it off too[img src="http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn218/billsheliatravis/DSC_0238-1.jpg" img]yep even though it was windy the ole savage proved it can still shoot

hillbill- some fine 'triggering", question- are these shot "dirty", they might just be locking in! ;D// a lot of the same characterist's that i witness of waiting time etc even "sabotless. fine-job!

everything was shot dirty, Robs gun was shot just as he sent it to me except for the addition of a zeiss 4.5x14x50. i was rushing things too much as it was showing signs of rain but when I let it cool between shots it did well. he will have it back next week if the little brown truck dont break down between TN and Wisconson and maybe next weekend he can post some more groups. I always get best accuracy in the savage after the fifth shot and I almost never swab the bore. If i do it always opens up. I can clean the plug and it has little effect.
maybe I can shoot some now that I have some glass to see thru....

Thanks for the work Bill! I am eagerly waiting its return. I hope to get out to the range next week and give her a whirl at 200 yds.
