size groups does it shoot at 50 and all the way out to as far as you are capable of shooting.. I know someone on this board who hunts in a county that does not allow rifles. He says since he found the load for his MLll he does noT care ;D Please feel free to include your best consistent groups with all your favorite rifles. Thanks for any and all responses, Rusty

Best group I ever witnessed was ten shots fired in 60 seconds that included inserting one magazine to start plus a second one after the fifth round. The shooter started from a standing position, went into a prone position before inserting the first magazine. All ten shots were in the V ring (4 inches). The distance was 300 yards. Group shot by George Negroni, a Distinguished Rifleman. I had the honor of accurizing his rifle pluse acting as his coach. for this postal match. Sorry, that was a bit off topic. I don't shoot for groups since retiring from competitive shooting. I concentrate totally on precise placement of the first shot. Not that I look down on group shooters. It is all a shooting sport.

When I 1st got mt Rem 26 inch barrel .243 I concentrated on making a long range woodchuck load. I ended up with 52.5 gr H414 and 55 gr NBT's @ 4,000 fps and at 500 yds would hold MOA or better. Shot many 3 inch groups out there and a few 5 inch 5 shot groups at 650 yds which is the longest I could shoot at that place. All prone from a bi-pod with a rear sandbag.
The kicker was wind drift. At 500 yds it was not uncommon for a group to be 12" to the right or left with seemingly little breeze. This showed up many times when chuck hunting.
Now if deer season goes rifle around here, I will have to get back into the reloading and experimenting with this gun. I'm thinking about 3 bullets out of many good choices. 85 or 100 gr Nosler partitions or a Barnes 85 X bullet.
The 6.5 x 20 Leupy will be swapped out for probably a 3 X 9 though. I can't imagine that much power for deer hunting

Savage/PacNor .45 shoots 1 inch at 200 yards. Savage/McGowen .358 BFG shoots 1 inch at 200 yards. NULA .50 shoots under 3/4 inch at 100 yards. I have numerous rimfires and center fires that shoot 1 to 1.5 MOA and even a couple of slug guns that shoot less than 1 inch at 50 yards. This collection of firearms has been the result of 50 years of gun collecting and shooting. I only kept the better ones.

My pet is a box stock Weatherby Accumark in 338-378 from their first run, 240gr Northforks over 109gr of Reloader 25 clipping a tad over 3200fps. sub moa out to 565yds (as far as I can shoot around here)
I nicknamed her "Ma Bell" cuz she reaches out and touches things, has never missed anything she's been pointed at, nor has needed more then 1 shot as of yet. 4 moose, 8 elk, 15-20deer (heck I lost track of them) I love this rig.

Rem600 308 modded to be a Jeff Cooper scout rifle clone for close up/stalking and an old Interarms 25-06 using a Mauser action for larger fields.
The old Mohawk 600 is a dream to carry and for fast target acquisition but it gives up a bit of accuracy without a mild 3031 load pushing a 150gr bullet to about 2600fps. Its been so long since i reloaded for it i dont remember the exact load without looking it up.
The old Interamrs 25-06 seems to shoot about any off the shelf 100grish ammo ive tried within my abilities.

I don't know what the grouping is since I didn't have a chance to check that when I shot it across the chrono. This is a 22" savage 110. I have gotten less than moa at 100 yds several times over the years with a sierra 100gr and that averaged 2922 with a sd of 12.

a few yrs ago i had an urge to own a 50bmg, state arms-lothar-walther barrel(load-208.0gns -h50bmg-w/750gn-amax)not to be a bad a$$ but very intrigued while looking @ gun-shows etc.i ordered one & this pup is one of my best shooters day-in/day-out & it does not care about temp/the hotter the better. false- hear things like it takes 300-500 to stabilize,it shoots any day in the approx.3-.4moa range at 100yds &out with my "match loads". many women, girls & even a 11yr old boy that took him over 1hr to pull the 8oz trigger after many tears because of the intimidation factor, after his first squeeze he d**n near bankrupted me,tears to 50 grin's(priceless)i have many fav rifles & such but none get the grins;like this one

Can my favorite be the one I had the most trouble finding a load for? My Steyr SBS Prohunter stainles Mountain 6.5x55. I now, after 9 years have it finally shooting .5 inch groups consistently. But it took all 9 of those years to even get it under an inch consistently. I guess it is my favorite because it has killed more than 15 deer and every one dropped where we pulled the trigger/ the first time I laid eyes on it I knew I had to have it. My dad ordered it knowing I was looking for a new rifle and that I loved steyr rifles and I could buy it if I wanted it. Put a Sightron 3-12 SII on it and he cut me a deal(he is my dad) the end price was 1050.00 out the door. first time I had paid that kind of money for a rifle out right. and even though it didn't group that well I knew it had potential because it would shoot anything I put through it to 1.5 inches, factory dirt cheap or high end reloads with premium bullets. but I love it because it kills like lightening. #2 would be my Encore 45/70 it is the meanest thing I have ever seen on deer, hits like a wrecking ball, they just fly sideways a few feet and slam to the groupd never to get up. I hunt cane thickets and having to track one is a bad idea if you can avoid it. this one will shoot 1 inch or better with anything except lever revolution from Hornady, those fly everywhere. pet loads are 6.5x55 47 gr. H4350 and a 120 Pro Hunter, and 45/70 53 grains of IMR 4198 with a Remington 300 gr. HP.

The .243 is my current favorite and possibly my lifetime favorite. It is very accurate and has recoil so mild that I get to see the reaction animals have to hits. Heavy recoil renders me out of it for a fraction of a second and I miss little reactions like a twitch or flinch by the animal. I have taken crows at over 160 yards consistently. All deer (probably half dozen) except one dropped at the shot. The one traveled nearly a quarter mile. The hit was good and I don't know why the difference. Sometimes as hunters we don't understand it all. Some deer may just be tougher than others. Anyway, I expect my .243 to be my go to rifle frome here on out.

Well, I started this sooooooo I have owned waaaaaaay too many rifles. I am down to three now. I have a Rem target master 22 LR that I got reamed out to 22 mag. I can hit a roofing nail 8 outta ten times at 50 yrds. I also have a win mod 70 243 that money cannot buy. It shoots allllllllllllllllllmost one hole at 100 yrds with the 95 gr nosler BT over 40.5 grs of 4350 and the cci BR primmer. I am looking to change bullets. There are Bear where I hunt now and want a little more substantial bullet. With the Savage smokeless I am told to shoot the XTP cuz there cheap and the sst and the Barnes will print about the same.I am talking 45 cal. Is there a bullet around 95 grs in 243 cal that shoot basically the same as the nos BTs? My third rifle is my new 45 pacnor. I have 10 each 54,55 and 56 grs of 4198 all in vails. I have the new barnes bullets and hope to shoot tomorrow after bow hunting. I will post my results Rusty

My fave hunting rifle doesn't belong to me anymore. A Mod 700 Remington Mountain Rifle in 257 Roberts. It was stolen out of my truck, along with my 2nd fave Ruger 44 carbine. I also have a Kleingunther 22 RF I'm pretty fond of. Boarhog

My favorite play gun is a Taurus Model 72 carbine. Quick, accurate and I can kill snakes at 60 yards off hand. It shoots half inch groups at 50 with every brand of ammo I own loaded in the tube as well. Any old ammo will do.
That Steyr I spoke of is the same way. once you sight it in, if you run out of reloads and no way to reload ammo, I can just grab anything off the shelf and hunt without even checking my zero, I just shot a 2 inch group at 100 with five different loads AND bullets. Hornady Light Mag 140, reloaded 129 interlock, Sellier and bellot SPBT 140, Prvi Partizan 139 SPBT, and a 120 Sierra Pro Hunter reload. Not a great group for one load but awesome for 5 and it put them all inside a 2 inch square bullseye. First one landed dead center, and it was a random pick.
