Using Richards "take the best 3 shots" method, this guy has a 1" group at 1,000 yds. ;D ;DAmazing.
Now that this guy has a go-to load, maybe he can tinker around, tweak it a little and tighten it up a bit ;D ;D ;D
That is unreal!!!

Yeah! If he'd of Triplexed that load, it would have been even smaller ;D This is what I was into until these ML's came along! Now the 1,000 yard matches are over 4 hrs. drive away so I only shoot the 600 yard ones at 1 hr. ride. And yes, I caught the "snide comment" on the cool rod ;D. I don't personally know that fellow, but I can assure you that group was probably shot in less than 45 seconds. No time for for a cool rod! His barrel was probably a minimum of 1.5" in dia. from end to end and more likely a 1.75". With the .30 bore, it leave a lot of steel to heat up and since he has no sabots to deal with and a good custom cut rifled barrel will be doing veeeeeeeeerrrrrrry little walking around. Boarhog.........I know and shoot every months with John Lewis who shot the heavy gun five shot 600 yard group. That record was shot in 2009. And yes, it was with a .308 shooting a Lapua 155 gr. Plama bullet with Reloader 15. He is an excellent machinist and built his own rifle. Let me tell you, those groups do not happen every time at bat. There were many times this past year where my rifle shot smaller than his and vice versa. A lot goes into shooting small groups. John does a lot of innovating and tinkering. Much like playing with "Experimental" loads. Richard

Wow...I just shot a 6 inch group with a 7mm WSM at 1000yards (20 MOA elevation with .5 MOA into the wind) in the prone (well, in truth, the the last shot opened up the group to 9 inches), and I thought that was a smoking good group. I must need to do some more work with my savage!!!!

I cringe to report the velocity and bullet weight, but here goes...7mm WSM out of a converted 7MM Mag Savage long action (Kmart $199.00 gun BEFORE all the mods), Manners stock, Ferral 20 MOA base with a US optic 3.8-22 35mm MOA/MOA, 27inch Benchmark Barrel, Bottom metal with AI 300 win Mags, shot through a Gemtech Sandstorm Suppressor with 180g Berger VLD's at......3166fps. I worked the load over a chrony that spit out the wrong velocities. When I recalculated the velocity using Exball (using the target validation) I came up with that gestimate of velocity. I know it is a hot (okay, alot hot) of a load with RL22. I had to seat the bullets 0.037inch off the lands. That said, I only had to dial .25 MOA at 1000 yards in a 5-10mph full value gusting wind, and the .308 needed 5.5 MOA at the same distance. 100 yard zero and 54 MOA to a mile. Last time out with it, the bolt would get sticky when the action got too hot (i.e too many shots between between resting the rifle, but the clay pidgens at 600 yards were so fun to shoot), but I am at the max pressure when it is hot outside.
NOTE *******This is way over book loads*******************
