I finally managed to Take something other than coyotes with the Encore conversion. Saturday I spent 1.5 hours hiking up up up to a long ridge I like to stalk the length of. About 4,500 elevation. After a couple hundred yards of sneaking saw a deer coming around a trail that crosses my ridge, it was a small doe and she covered the 100 yards to the ridge turned left and came down the ridge towards me at a walk,,,,
I was hunkered down tight against a tree hoping she would not notice me,,,
When she was only 20 yards away another deer came into view on the same trail,
I could see antlers at 100+ yards and decided to shoot,
the small doe was now at 10 yards and staring at me,
buck was now at 80 yards and walking,,
the doe starts snorting and stomping,
the buck stops,,
doe starts walking closer,
I can see snot blowing out of her nose as she blows,,,
The buck turns and starts back down the trail at a fast trot,
the doe is at 5 yards now and puffed up like a mad cat.
I already had my gun close to position so I aim and shoot fast at the buck,,
I Bang flopped him right where he fell. The doe gets a face full of blast as I shot about 5 yards from her and 3-4 feet by her, I bet her ears are still ringing.,, I was peeking over that ridge behind him about 50 yards left of the trail you can see headed to the ridge, the buck simply folded and fell, that's the position I found him in. 195 barnes hit the next to last rib on the right side and exited right in front of the left shoulder hitting one of the first left side ribs,,,
The doe snorted and stomped awhile then left,, she was still snorting as she went out of hearing.
This is the first deer or any game animal with a ML since I bulged the barrel on my savage,, a huge thanks to the great guys that set me up with this encore, it is a great option for a ML, in my opinion the best option out there for a hunting ML.
