Fine deer. How many bow vs gun?

He is at work so I can answer. The three on the left, his right, are all gun. The 3 mounts on the right, his left, are by bow. Think the one on the ground below the bow kills was a gun kill but I can't tell by the pic. He is doing something right!

Thanks, Dave is correct. The three on my left, right side of pic are archery kills. All the rest are gun. Have some others that aren't in the pic, nothing great just average bucks. Sad thing is, there should be at least 2 more in this pic that would dwarf any of these....haunting memories. Can't get em all I guess.

Shoot man, our biggest deer here, when drunk, on a Sat night, might "think" they were that big,,,,, Very nice bucks

Thanks, appreciate it. We let a lot of deer go to try and get some nice ones. Trouble is, seems 95% of them vanish or become nocturnal once they hit 4 years old. Its a tough gig on a very small farm. It's depressing to let 130" deer go, fairly frequently, only to never seem them the next year. Our "neighbors" provide a safe haven in which they never wanna leave nor does he want them to. He keeps their bellies full and even goes as far as chasing them to try to keep them from crossing the fence. Ole Dave and myself have let a many a nice bucks that most would die for, walk off into the sunset. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it's nothing but frustrating.

Beautiful deer and I admire your discipline. It is very tough to let that nice one go sometimes hoping that he will become "Mr. Big".

Thanks quillen. It's tough for sure, does get easier the older we get, dread the after the shot process anymore and the thought of being done cause of the 1 buck a year limit. We've always got a big one around and hate the thoughts of giving up on the dream of taking him. Dave has ate more tags than anyone I know, his discipline is unmatched, mine slips a lil occasionally and I hear about it, believe me. We set an unwritten 140" minimum rule some years ago, that really upped the Annie and will severely test your nerves and discipline. 130" would sure make things a lot easier on us but that's the size/age where if you let them go they can really grow over the next year.

My biggest deer is a 176 East Tenn deer which is truly exceptional for us. The next closest one is in the 140's and it was killed in Illinois. I've been hunting there with friends for the last several years and have seen some truly exceptional deer but I usually see them during bow season and they are tough to come by with a bow. I've been hunting for over 40 years and I have learned to take my vengeance on a fat doe. They eat so well!

Don't worry too much about " figuring out this computer bit " . You obviously have the shoot big bucks bit figured out and that is much more important than computer skill ! !

Ohioguy sounds like Im talking into a mirror. We dont shoot any young deer regarless of size as long as they have potential. About 5 of us hunt a large tract. There used to be more people that shot everything. We never took anything exceptional until a couple yers ago, only after practicing restraint for about 5 years prior. In this order, since 2010, 4 of us shot the following scored deer; 2010-167", 2011-206.5", 2012-180" & 212". The prior 10 years the biggest was a 160" between 8 guys. I gradually got them to see itn my way. The ones who continued hunting there have been rewarded except one. He still shoots small ones and lots of does when you should be holding off for a nice buck. His choice, but still no buck for him over 140". Let the young ones walk. It's the only way. Nice bucks Ohioguy. What does the one above you (in the back of the truck too) gross? Looks like long beams and serious height.

Thanks iowaml, the one above me if I remember right net score was 165 2/8. The only deer I have encountered that would score 190, one of them probably died of laughter cause I choked so bad, (I still blame the gun lol) the next i screwed up and took a back up gun cause it was pouring rain and ended up making a poor shot and a guy in the holler finished him off at point blank before i could get there and the other I just caught some limbs I couldn't see cause I made a rookie mistake and rattled him in, before it was light enough. Should be 3 boooners on this tree..... live and learn. I've put a ton of horns on the ground over the years, but that ton is made up of mostly 100-120 inch deer. Trying our best to get a booner on the ground, gotta let them go so they can grow. Easy or not. Lol

Wow. A great deer none the less, but I missed that a bit. Surely he goes into the 170's gross. But he looks bigger than that. Mu son's buck is right at 180 gross and 167 7/8 net so I was comparing yours to that deer. But pictures aren't the same as handling the rack I guess. I guess grossed by buddy's buck from a trail cam pic at 205. That deer went 212 gross and 208 net. Thought I could guess closer than I did on yours. But, it's an awesome deer anyway.

Thanks. 5 inches away from my lifelong goal. No spread but tall and decent mass and beams. Maybe this will be the year to break 170. Good luck this season.

you have some nice bucks there Guy, you guys are blessed to have that caliber of deer to hunt. around my neck of the woods a 120 is seldom seen.. that's why I come north every year with bow in hand to see some of what I wish we had at home. some day maybe if I live long enough I will get an op at a true booner but it hasn't happened yet in my almost 54 years..

Thanks fellas. Hope you get your shot at one Bill, and wouldn't it be ironic if I could get that first booner with that 700 you built me. Lol Hoping to do it with a bow but I'll take a booner either way!
