I connected this afternoon. Mid 150's. 125 yard shot, double lung with the 275MH.
So I snuck out behind my house this afternoon for a late afternoon hunt. The opportunity to score a deer actually on my property is slim, but I had gotten permission from my neighbor earlier in the day to shoot into the adjacent timber.
I intended to walk about 300 yards back in to setup, but there's a big cotton wood on the first rise that I walk up behind and peek around before I head in. When I looked around, I spotted a decent buck about 200 yards back in the timber. Not wanting to spook anything I decided to setup at the tree.
To make a long story short, I ended up having 5 deer (3 bucks, and 2 without that were probably buttons) feeding out in front of me. I'm not sure if the one I shot is the first one I saw. Or a second decent one that showedup about 30 minutes into my sit. The trees are kind of thick, and it's amazing the bucks somehow always keep a tree between you and them even if they don't know you're there.
Anyway, at about the 40 minute mark, I got a good look at this one and decided he'd be worth shooting.
Shot was around 125 yards. At that point, I had gone prone and was using one of the tree roots as a rest, so I was pretty locked in. At the shot, he bolted. I was starting to second guess myself since he didn't look injured on his run and I didn't see him go down. But as you can see in the video, once I found the blood trail I wasn't worried.
Not the huge exit on this one as I missed ribs going in and out. I didn't get a look at the lungs as I gutted it in the dark. But there must have been some expansion because I found the aluminum tip in the exit hole. Load was my usual 15/55 N110/H322.
