Use of the lead sled and the ML II ...

I have a lead sled that I have been using with our new savages. It is the one that costs 100-120$ and I clamp 2 50lb weights in it. How do you hold the gun in it for maximum accuracy to sight it in with your scope. Do you place the cross hairs on the target and not touch the gun as best you can and squeeze the trigger or hold the gun in tight with your shoulder arms and hands

Kinda of a tuffy to answer since i do two final site ins too. One off just bags then another with just my support.

On the sled i dont touch the front of the rifle. My left hand is under the buttstock and i dont use any weights usually. I hold it as lightly as possible. Sometimes using the left hand under the stock to make slight adjustments. Medium pressure against my shoulder and sled.

Well I had a hard time getting used to the lead sled,, it was hard to feel the gun and get a good hold,,, finally am used to it,,,, I have a small sandbag next to the lead sled on the left side, my left elbow rest on this and my left hand is on the front rest of the lead sled with my index finger over the barrel,,, same way I usta hold shooting off of bags,I know the finger is probably a bad habit,, I have a larger sandbag for my right elbow to raise up to the lead sled level,,, works for me

First thing is take off the 100 lbs so the gun can recoil or you will end up with a broken scope. I use no more than 25 lb bag of shot and you can shoot all day with big recoiling guns. Mike

Passthrough..............Below is my sled with its many modifications. I also do not hold the forend on the stock. Just he thumbhole grip and keep the rear of the sled pulled into my shoulder. I have a leather bag filled with 16 lbs. of shot which I keep on the tray. I also keep the feet greased so the sled can recoil rearward much as is normal without a sled. I never liked the way the original configuration allowed the sled to "jump" and move all over the bench. The tracking devise, which is c-clamped to the bench allows the sled to move straight rearward and then can be pushed right back to its original position. Since the gun has to be removed for loading each time, it helps with getting back on the target with the least amount of "fiddling" around getting the sled back into position. The sled also has a 3" formed benchrest bag on the front and a matching wood block on my stock so the rifle is level every time.
