My son and I each have a new ml10, he is 12 and I have a herniated disk in my neck. We both want to use our ml after bow season to hunt deer and neither of us are recoil fans. Would using 37 gn of AA5744 be to low of a charge to get good accuracy at 100 yards. We only need 100 yards and the gun works fine with just 33 grains. We are working to site them in but just want to make sure a reduced load won't affect accuracy. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks so much for sharing your experience and opinions

You will be fine at that range. More power then a .44 Mag which is considered formidable.

You are good to go with this combo. My daughter,11 at the time, shot several deer with this combo. From 20 to 150 yds.She could consistantly hold 1.5 with this combo. IIRC it was around 1900 fps 36 grns of 5744 and as Wilms mentioned it far exceeds the power of standard .44 Rem Mag loads. Shania started out at 34grns and eventually settled on using 42 grns. N110 can be substituted with slightly faster speed.

Thanks for posting those again Rick. I love the pictures of Q and Shania and their harvests! Proof positive that those loads are very effective.

Thanks for posting those again Rick. I love the pictures of Q and Shania and their harvests! Proof positive that those loads are very effective. Thats why I post them bud! Quentin has had his Savage since he was 8 yrs old and Shania since she was 11 yrs old. They have killed a pile of deer with them! I am going to work up some light accurate loads in the .45 for women/children. Imagine a light recoiling 200 SST or XTP @ 1800-2000 fps?

Tar you have a family to be very proud of. You have to keep in mind the parent's are the ones that give the kids a direction. Obviously you did a great job. By the way those are some really great pic's. Jon

One of my MLIIs has a sweet spot at 38 gr. 4759 and 250 gr bullet. I'm shooting the barnes .458 "flat nose" in that load and it is a real accurate and plenty of power load with modest recoil. If it's deer, if you can hit it you can kill it with that load. Years ago when I shot .50 RBs and BP in my hammer guns I killed deer out to 110 yds. with those 180 gr roundballs. I'm not advocating using RBs but if you put it through their ribs theyre gonna die quick. Best, 10
