Man I feel like a kid on the night before xmas!! Just got off the phone with Ron at SMI and my new 50cal barrel is in the process right now. Hopefully in 2 weeks I will be planning a trip to the range I have a couple of questions about these conversions for those who have done them. I asked Ron at SMI but he wasn't certain of the answers. 1. Ron tells me he will have a weaver style base installed on the barrel. I plan to mount a 3-9X40 Leupold VX-II on it. Can I use low rings or will I need to go to the mediums? 2. Ron suggested the Weaver Tactical style rings that have 6 screws and made of aluminum. Is this a good choice in your opinion? If not, can you suggest a good quality ring? 3. My Pro Hunter currently wears a .243 barrel, so I ordered up a new T/C Pro Hunter ML forend for the smokeless barrel. Will that forend come with the needed hardware to mount it to the SMI Barrel? Any feedback MUCH APPRECIATED!!

I use Warne Steel rings and bases... medium height rings to clear the hammer with a 40mm lens. I personally like steel when I can. Not sure on the forend though. Drop

Thanks for the input! I was thinking after I posted that I used medium rings with the 243 barrel and a Nikon 40mm scope. Wouldn't the barrels be basically the same diameter near the breech?
