I mounted up my scope tonight on my Encore/Pacnor/BullBerry... I used Height Warne rings..It seems rather high to me..But allows a full thumb on the Swing hammer..Feels really secure..And the cheek weld seems pretty well also..It looks rather goofy though. But my concern is this. How much could it affect the poi? On a max 300 yd gun. Will this have any adverse effect? Or should I drop down to med ring's.. there is plenty of clearance.. But as stated the swing hammer takes a lot of leverages..and it feels pretty secure. Thanks Drop

Scope height vs poi variance at different ranges on guns used at longer ranges is not a concern to me. Especially those used on deer size game. As long as the cheek weld is comfortable for you don't worry about it. The only guns that I try to get the scope low on for poi reasons are .22's and airguns used on small game at 75yds. and under. The over/under line of sight difference will be small or un-noticable.

load it up and shoot it with no worries, no biggie on the height

The old rule "have your scope as close to the barrel as possible" is problematic, in most cases, including our usage on smokeless MLers. I agree with the two previous posters.

What gets you in trouble is "canting" and parallax. If you can keep that at a minimum there is some advantage to a higher sight line. In the design of the M16 something about the bullet staying closer to the sight line for a longer period of time. There was some long range silhouette pistol shooters that had some scope mounts that were like 6-8" tall.

Looks almost like the outlawed "chin gun" scope height edge.

A higher scope height will translate into a weapon that appears to shoot flatter. The only catch is that shots at close targets will tend to be low, as the bullet rises up to the line of sight. This should be great for 300 yard shots at deer, just test it out at different yardages, to make sure.

A higher scope height will translate into a weapon that appears to shoot flatter. Something I've noted in trajectory outputs in JBM. Set the scope height higher, bullet appears to be flatter with nothing else changed. As long as the sight picture and cheek weld is good, no issues other than what rossman noted.

Dern thintg is taunting me... Looks like its mounted on a diving platform... Probably going to get med ring's. Im going to measure med's against high's... Probably only an eighth of an inch though.. lol

as long as it "feels" good to the shooter with a good check weld and eye relief, I have Med rings on my encore and the hammer is kinda tight to the scope but it is never cold around here in ML season where gloves would be in the way

I personally want to be able to raise the stock to my cheek and have a good position with the eye relative to scope height, specifically for shooting off hand. If its too high its hard for me to find that repeatable position as easy.

What I perfer is a scope mounted as low as possible. It generally gives me a better cheek weld. I have a few 50-56 mm scopes but of late I have bought around 40mm or less so I can keep everything lower. That works for me but the next guy may like something different.

Agreed,,, most of my scopes are actually below a 40mm objective and I think I have one 3-10x42mm with a few 3-9x40s on rimfires,,
