getting ready to sight in our new guns with a scope, should we zero at 100 yards for east coast deer if so, how much higher with a typical average load of 110 and 250 XTP will the bullet be at 50 yards, how much lower at 150 and 200. same as above for a zero at 150 yards, higher at 50,100 and lower at 200
thanks

Passthrough
Using my favorite load of a 250SST, Harvester sabot, 4759 powder generating slightly above 2300fps my ballistic results are as follows.
50yds +1.2” 100yds +1.8” 150yds 0 200yds -4.75”
For 100yd zero Point Blank calculates the following for this load.
50yds +0.25” 100yds 0 150yds -2.8” 200yds -8.72”

"East coast" deer seems to lump them into a group that is typically shot far away? Or close? Not sure I know what you mean. Surely, there are areas when the woods are thick....and 300 yds away could be a stand at a fields edge where shots are as far as you could reasonably shoot.
If your goal is to simply maximize point blank range (let's say no higher or lower then 3") the best way to start would be to plug your speed and ballistic coefficient into a ballistic calculator and play around until you get the number. Then sight in at the "zero" range that is nested in those calculations. Then go verify the information at the range.

What powder are you going to shoot? You mentioned 110,I assume Blackhorn,777 or other bp substitute. You have a savage ,so go smokeless, you will have more velocity and ET's and Wilm's ballistics will fit your situation. There are free ballistic calculators out there one is at biggameinfo.com. You can play with different weights and velocities to see what would fit your hunting situation the best. Good luck, Greenhorn

Do you centerfire hunt? If so I would sight the ML2 in the same as the centerfire, All mine are 1 inch high at 100 as my shots are most all well within 100 yards.

nic58, I read it wrong for sure ,my bad. I forgot about n110, i guess because I have had a tough time finding a resource for Vihtourri powder in NW Florida. I did some research on my answer on PASSTHROUGH's next post. Maybe it will help him and others that can obtain n110. Thanks, Greenhorn
