Just for giggles, I am curious as to what you guys think the effect would be (if any) if the ignition source (primer flash)could be directed to the front of the powder column instead of at the rear in our sabotless muzzleloaders. Years ago I read of Rocky Gibbs using a front ignition technique in centre fire cartridges with good success. He used a flash tube to carry the flame to the front or top of the powder. He claimed good success but was known to perhaps stretch his numbers a little He claimed higher velocity, better es, more complete burn, etc. Im not trying to discuss how it might be done, just if there may be a theoretical benefit to us if it could be done.

Knight made a powerstem breechplug that does just what you are thinking about. I have brought this up a few times without much positive feedback. I theorize you could have a powerstem bp that is customized for your favorite load. Measure how high it stacks in the chamber make your stem 1/8 shorter and see what happens. You could use a stock breechplug but instead of a ventliner you screw in your custom stem. I'm a newbie but it just makes sense to me. The flame channel will be longer but knight thought it was a good idea. The theory is not new ROSSMAN, came up with a photo of a cartridge that was made utilizing this theory. Interesting!!! My two cents, Greenhorn

Funny..............it just never caught on If it would shave .001" off a benchrest shooters group? Someone would have perfected it! Yes its has been around for quite some time but not worth the effort! Maybe someone here needs to revisit it?? Richard

I actually have just what you are talking about but it was discontinued before production. Its made for T7 mainly and they hoped it would work well with BH209. Well... it did poorly with BH209 so it never went any further. Im not so sure it would handle smokeless for too long either.

Pressure could get higher much faster if you had ignition all along the powder charge at the same time, not a good thing
