Just picked up a Stevens 200 in .223 so I will reloading for it. Looking for all of the pet loads that everyone use. I do not plan on real hot loads. Just the best shooting ones in a bolt action. I will be yote shooting out to about 300yds. So lets hear what you use and like that will do the job for me. Thank for any help!

69 Sierra HPBT Match, 26.0 gr. Varget, Rem 7 1/2 primer. I use it in my Savage .223 with 1-9 twist barrel. If your Stevens is a 1-12 then this load wont be very accurate but I think the Stevens is 1-9 too. Mike

I tried mikes load of 26 gr varget in my savage 223 last week and it shot great out to 300 yds.At 100 yds itm shot one little hole and at 300 yd less than an inch ( just eyeballed the groups at 300).Was surprized at the speed I got 2950 using wolf primers and sierra 69 gr bullets. The wind hasn't been all that good the last several weeks also. I tried 25 gr varget and got 2823 fps.The 25 gr load of R-15 was 2767 fps and a load of H322 at 23 grs and got 2831 fps. These were all shot at 100yds and 3-shot groups which all were 1/2 in or less.(didn't actually measure just eyeball). I loaded up 5 with 27 grs of varget to try soon as I get to it. I don't actually have a favorite load I just shoot anything that comes to mind. The stevens has a 1:9 twist according to savage so it should shoot anything you put in it.Anything from 40 gr to 75 grs should be fine for coyotes.

The 69gr SMK at about 3000fps is a great combo and with Varget your pretty much a full case.

Ya gotta tap the side of the case and compress it but it will fit.

Change the trigger out on that stevens to a Timney or a SSS, mine wears a Timney. Don't have a yote load but I shoot a 35gn v-max, 22gn of IMR4198 on wood chucks.

I redid my own trigger by changed the spring and it is now at 3#. I did alittle deburring and clean up to I had it lighter but I did not think it was safe so got it back up to 3#. Nice and crisp I use IMR 4198 in my savage 10ML so I have that on hand. How far was the wood chuck? I like the 69 Sierra HPBT Match, 26.0 gr. Varget load it has the same speed as 30-06 loads.

That gun will, like heaver bullets, the 1-9 and longer throat will decide that, I put a really short throated 1-12 on mine to use lighter bullets but the factory barrel shot about any heavy bullet I put in it with varget well

I use VV powders, and for varmit loads I use a hot charge of N530. I've also had good results with their N130, and N133. My target loads for 200, 300, and 600 used N540 with a 75gr Hdy BTHP, or a 75gr VLD (600). Both of my AR uppers prefer a pretty hot, compressed load. I've also found that RL15 and Varget shoots well with the heavy bullets. I've had good results with Varget across the board from 40gr V-max, to 75gr A Max, I've worked up loads for both of them, and several weights in between, and they have all shot well with Varget. It is my go-to powder for anything that I want to test out.
