Pressure Trace:PN45 H4198 66gr. 200gr SST Savage Shooter has noted the scarcity of pressure trace data for H4198 above 62gr. for 200gr bullets for PN45 barrels. IMO, the trace shown below may mean that a powder weight increase to this level (H4198, 66gr.) and a bit above is be possible for sabotted 200gr bullets in PN45 barrels without disrupting sabots. Gage and Module Manufacturer = RSI USB model Trigger Sensitivity = 2, Strain Gage Voltage =4.9 Gage Factor =2.1 PSI Correction Factor: 0 Barrel Temp = 64 degrees F. measured at the sensor (IR). Rifle Stand: Caldwell Lead Sled Altitude: 450 ft Chronograph: Chrony Alpha Model 8 ft from muzzle. (8 fps added to all recorded velocities to correct for distance of chrony from muzzle.) Barrel Type: PacNor .45 Cal Muzzleloader Barrel OD = 1.06 in Barrel ID = .452 Breech Plug:Savage Std. (screw-in ventliner) ventliner orifice .033 in. Sensor dist fm BP=1.1 in. Bullet Diam.= .458 in. Bullet Type = Hornady 200SST Bullet weight = 200gr. ,unknurled. Sabot: Harvester Smooth Blue Powder: H4198 66gr. Primer :Fed 209 Shot fm dirty barrel. This load seemed safe in my barrel under the test conditions but may not be so in other conditions.

Pposey: Compared to the 4895 87gr, 325be, I tested a few days ago, it wasn't too bad. I was shooting in bright sunlight and really didn't notice the muzzle flash. TG (Ralph)

In your data list you have the 200 grain SST diameter listed as .458, shouldn't it be .400? Mike

In my gun, I would have problems with 66grains of powder with increased ambiant temp. Right now with 63 grains I know sabot disruption issues start to happen around 80F and above.
Recoil on the other hand IMHO is mild at 63-64grains. * this is in a heavier savage too though. In a light weight breakopen design it is much more noticeable.
