I took my old Handi conversion to the range today to try a new bullet sabot combo that I've been working on. I bought some Harvester Crush Rib sabots a while back and noticed they loaded a little easier than the smooth blues. I then bought some .410 Hornady 210 grain XTP's and they were way too tight. I then made a couple of sizer dies and wound up with a box of .404" XTP's that loaded great in H&R barrel with the Crush Rib sabots. I used H-4198 and the Lee dipper that is the equivalent of 57.3 grains. My very first 3-shot group at 100 yards was an awsome 3/8" center to center. I was exremely tickled! The group was about 6" high and about an inch to the right. I made the scope adjustments and proceeded to shoot another group. My first shot hit exactly were I wanted it to, about 2" high dead over the bull. My second shot hit right beside it, no paper between them. I was really getting excited now and was starting to dread the last shot for fear of screwing it up. I finally got the gun loaded back up and settled into the bench, I was really sweating this last shot and when the gun went off I had opened the group to 1&5/16 inches, still not a bad group but I wonder if it was me. I'll be trying this load combo again next time I get a chance to shoot.

Man that is just awesome!
You could repackage and resale those bullets as well if that is the magic load for your conversions,, heck I would gladly pay for you to re-size some.
I am "negotiating" with someone right now over a H&R I want to have you convert,,, we will agree on the trade sooner or later ;^)

Robert; I think it's time you build yourself a different one. Shooting groups like that is just to boreing. But being the boreing guy I am I would be willing to take it off your hands..... BTW finally got out yesterday to shoot the barrel you did for me, it was a little breezy but managed a 1'' 3 shot group but opened up to 2''after 5 shots. I might have got in a hurry and not let the barrel cool down enough. Was shooting 56grs H-4198 with XTP. Gonna try some SST and 60 grs next time. thanks again and keep up the good work. Dave

Hey mac111, tell you what I'll do since you have given me so much work. When I get your Encore barrel and get it finished, I'll throw in a few of my sized bullets and Chrush Rib sabots for you to try. pposey, now there is a good idea, resizing bullets. If you do get the H&R and want the conversion just let me know. edge, the tape measure I wasn't worried about, my finger was just out of the picture! Darrel, Thank you very much! olsmokey, sorry but this old boreing gun ain't going nowhere, it's got more sentimental value to me than monetary. Sounds like you're going to have a fine shooter there yourself anyway. Thanks, GOOD SHOOTING! Slufoot

:)nice looking handing and very nice group sulfoot. How's the trigger on those rifles? The two I have, one was originally a slug gun and the trigger was pretty stout. Sent it back to H&R pre-remington and for $5 they dropped it to a crisp 3# and sent it back to me. The .45 action project going on right now was right at 3# already, very crisp as well.

Thanks dave d., as rangeball stated the triggers can be good right out of the box or they might need some attention. If you're pretty handy with a stone you can do it yourself. There is alot of good information over at GrayBeard Outdoors about doing the trigger job on these rifles, along with tons of info on how to make them shoot better.
