I have been shooting the Nos 95 Gr BTBT over 40.5 GRs of 4350 for more yrs than I can remember and am very happy with the accuracy out to 400 yrds with no wind. My problem is there are bear in our Co. now and they opened the season on them last yr. I want a more substantial bullet. I know every rifle is different but I hunt with a Mod 70 Win and was wondering if there is a bullet that shoots the same accuracy and poi. I would not have thought this possible until I got here and learned about the 250 gr xtp being substituted with no change in accuracy. Thanks, Rusty

I see no easy answer here, only way to tell if a particular bullet will shoot to same POI as another is actual field testing. Even if it does hit same POI at the zero range, it is even less likely to shoot to same POI over the full scale of ranges thougt to fall within that weapons max effextive range. However it might be close enough for government work. Best to research, do some drop tables on a puter, take your best guess, then shoot to verify. Or you could just buy a bear gun !

Barnes and partition both very good,,, the mono. bullet from Hornady gets pretty good reviews as well,, www.hornady.com/store/6mm-.243-80-gr-GMX/only 80 grains but would both hold together better and be going faster,, course the partition is a great bullet

I have had to kill a few bear one close to 500 lbs. It has been my experience that they are easier to put down than deer. .22 Mag., .223, and even a head shot with the .17 HMR. With my .243 I would feel safe and expect a quick death with most bullets on black bear. I am not discounting the fact that a wounded bear could be big time problems regardless of bullet type. Again shot placement is the key. Since I don't reload I would probably use the 100 Grain Remington Core-lokt. Just my opinion.

I use the Barnes TSX in my .243 because I don't know if a deer will walk out at 20 yds or 300 yds. The last deer that was 20' away took a TSX in one ear and out the other. I found the most accurate load was also the fastest, so I'm happy that the TSX is accurate at that speed.

I think there is a 95 grain tsx and that would do what you want. In .243 you want to keep the velocity at 3000 fps or less in my experience with any 6mm or .257 x bullet or risk no expansion withnout a heavy bone strike. 1 more vote for the partition. I would also look at a 105 gr round nose and see if i could get it to shoot very close to the same POI or within 2-3 inches out to 200. That is about the best you can hope for with a rn but sufficient for a kill shot.

The Sierra 85grHPBT is the ticket for me. I loaded for the son's gun and it kills so well with so little kick and is the most accurate to boot. I have taken high shoulder shots and double lung shots and most were DRT. My son made a couple of bad shot this year a little behind the lungs but both deer went less than 50 yards. So far the last two years have been eight deer with five DRT. I did shoot one a little low out of a high tree stand, the shot was under 25 yards, just got one lung and a little heart. Had a great blood trail for about 50 yards.

I know Nosler used to make a 95gr. part. Think they still do?Either that or the Barnes 80gr. TTSX. That said the 95gr. Berger VLD is a wicked and sudden killer in my son's 243 Ackley Imp.
