After reading some post's about the 200gr sst expansion issue's at close range with 62gr of H4198speed's . I was a bit worried . But I try to never take a shoulder shot. However yesterday I took one by accident. I pulled in a basket rack with a couple decoy's. He got a little edgey and was leaving when he presented the broadside shot at 40yds. But he was picking up speed... When I shot he crumpled like a ton of bricks. His chin literally flopped on the ground. His hind legs were still driveing and buldozeing him along. Then he picked himself up and charged off. Carrying his right front leg...I was just sick...Thought sure it wasnt a lethal shot. I gave it about 30 minutes and went to where he ran in the brush. He was about 30 yds in. loold trail was like spilled paint. While dressing him I traced the wound channel. It went in center shoulder on the right side pulverized one lung and came out in front of the left shoulder down low(in front of the armpit area) I thinl I must have gotten part of the aorta . There was lots of blood. But from here on out I would still rather catch back a little for both lung's But thats my problem......That 200grn sst sure did its job as far as I am concerned. I am sure it has its limitations . But it sure came through yesterday. Drop

Congratulations!
Took my first 10MLII (.50) deer with the .40 SW (SST) with a shoulder shot. It was the only shot afforded because of thick brush. Went through both shoulders with just a bit of lead exiting. After 2 1/2' of blood trail, he was recovered. ;D

I went back out again tonight.... I had 10 antler less deer in front of me at 1 time.....From 100 yds out to 200 (ranged them) It was so cool just sitting there in my shooting shack with my wife..heat.. carpet.. No roughing it in this shack...lol but anyway knowing that I could reach every deer there... But waiting for one to get close enough for her to take with a slug gun. All thanks to the help and knowledge gained from the helpful people on this board. Without this board I wouldn't have even known about pacnor barrels. Thanks to all...Drop

If the 200sst could handle pressure better without killing a sabot it's all I'd use in a .45,,

Way to go Drop! Posey.........I have been shooting those 200 SST's in the 2800 fps range with no problem blowing sabots. They only occasionally blew in the upper 2900's. Richard

Sitting here this morning reflecting. I should have gotten up and went out to the shack and seen if "old Big " showed up....But mother and I talked and decided that we have 2 in the freezer. And I still have 1 shotgun and 2 mzl loader tags and she has 1 shotgun tag. We still have another 4 day shotgun season and the following weekend have a 4 day mzloader season. I will be able to hunt a couple of each of those season's. So we decided to wait. Gonna spend some time with my son today. He is my hunting buddy along with my wife. But he is my tracker, field dresser,...My go to guy. Kind of sad today....He starts a new job the day after Thanksgiving driving a mail semi.... He will make great money ...just not going to be a available for me to hug when I need one .....Its all part of Gods plan.... After a while he will get his own dedicated route and then we can go from there I am sure it will work out.... Drop

Good info drop. If I could get one close enough this year to put a 195 Barnes through its boiler room the 200 SST is going in to pinch-hit to compare performance.
