Sunny, 50 degrees and no wind this am. Shot 54 to 56 grs of H 4198 under 195 gr Barnes MZ FB with harv smooth and CR, Win Primers all at 100 yrds. Groups opened up as I increased powder charge. Went back to 54 grs and shot a 1.086" group with blue CR and then a .928" group with the smooth blue that Boarhog sent me. I think I am set for this hunting season with 54 grs ;D Maybe after hunting season I will try another powder or Kick this load up to 60 grs and see if it closes up for me and does not hurt Tomorrow I am helping a hunting buddy set up his new CVA and I hope to shoot my 45 at 50 100, 150, 200 and 250 to see the bullet drop with just 54 grs of H 4198. Thanks again to all for all the help, Rusty ---------I keep forgetting that I am getting this consistent accuracy without having my Tuperware stock bedded OR the third pilar added. Can't wait to see what she will do after that has been done ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I just had a thought, not an original one I'm sure As I stated above, my stock has not been bedded nor has the third pilar been installed. I am getting very good accuracy with this light load but when I increase it even to 56 grs very inconsistent. I was wondering is the extra kick, the extra torquing of the barrel and anything else EXTRA One gets with higher octane loads would have more effect on the stock not being bedded. I could have ask this question a different way. Is it more important to get a 460 mag bedded that a 22 mag, as far as consistent accuracy? I should not hijack my own thread Come on ,give an ole man some atta boys ;D Thanks for listening to my ramblings Rusty

Good shootin Rusty.
You might find that your gun has more than one sweet spot. Mine like 56 to 58g, doesn't seem to like 59-61, but comes back in at 62-63...and as I found out today even 64 seems doable with the flat based 195 Barnes.

Bedding could help more with a big kicker but probably not much with the differences your talking about,,,, you should be getting 2400fps with the 54 grains, I was with my 21 inch pacnor

60 to 62 grains should bring the group back down.

Rusty, Sounds like good shooting all around! After seeing what the 195 gr Barnes does to a deer, I don't think you need to worry about your 54 gr load. I plan to try a few lighter ones myself. I look forward to your drops and groups at the longer ranges. Robert
