I have a lot of 4759 and like to use it as a main charge. I dont see a listed duplex load with it as a main just a booster. Any sugestions to what can be with it? Again I want to use it as the main or am i better of staying single load. using 250 xtp and hph 24

I've always understood the whole logic behind a duplex load is to use an easy-to-light powder to ensure proper ignition of a hard-to-light one. With 4759 being easy to light and generating proper pressures on its own, there's no benefit, or perhaps I should say no NEED to duplex.

No need to boost 4759, it is easily ignited and efficient as a single to be temp insensitive in most cases.
Fast burning powders are used in duplex as a booster to provide ignition insurance in some cases or to change the burn characteristics of a slow powder to make it efficient enough to use in our application.

You should be in the 2300 -2400 fps range as a single powder.Very similiar to what I get with the 42 grns of N110 with a 250 grn xtp and RCR. I see no need or benfit in duplexing this powder. It kills them plenty dead as is...

The book recommended powders are all easy on ventliners.

I have been using 4759 for awhile now, just thought that maybe there was a better combo for it. I been using 42 grs 250 xtp with hph24 excellent groups. I thought perhaps i can make it a little better by using a duplex. Thank all.

It is too fast for duplex main charge powder. It is the primer speed. The book loads are excellent for 250-300g bullets. The older barrels were slightly looser and the early book loads reflect that: 44+/-2gs VV-110 for 250 and 300g XTPs is a book load from the second 10-ML2 manual. So 46g VV-110/300SST is a book load. Now if you really want some speed, NO temp sensitivity, and great accuracy 45-46g VV-110/250SST or 45g VV-110/300SST will do it. If your barrel is tight or rough a little lapping will allow you to shoot these loads. Remember a slicker/lapped barrel is more load sensitive and will likely now only shoot well with hotter loads. I have a close friend who shoots 250g TMZs with a WW and 46g VV-110 with appx 2450'/sec and way sub-MOA. He's shot this for almost 10 years. Hard to beat with any other load. No temp sens at all. An after thought: 44-46g VV-110/275 BE (with a wad) would be quite a load for a 50 cal rifle.
