just shot 3 of the new flatbase barnes, all three in 3/4th inch at 80 yards all clustered in the upper center of my 1.5 inch bulls eye. I think I'm ready to hunt, sabots are fine, you can clearly see where the base of the bullet grabs the sabot, load is
54 grains 4198, harv, smooth blue and a fed 209 primer, this same load was as good with the 200sst, and got 2400fps. Tis the load I hunted with for the past 2 years and shot well,
How accurate is the .199 BC that barnes has posted for this bullet?

I would be interested in knowing what your shorty Pac-Nor will do at 200 yds with this combo..... ;D

Nope it's a 21 inch,,, I cant remember the weight though, It's still pretty heavy as the mag well is filled with a piece of stainless pipe and JB weld.. I have burris steel rings, and a pretty heavy little burris scope

I do like the shorter barrel though as it is an easier to carry and swing fast gun, center of balance is right under the mag well for good carry and swing, speed is limited some, over 54-55 grains of 4198 I have a huge fireball and not much more speed. messing with some faster powders

I loved to shoot it then and see 18 inches of flame outta the end of the barrel ;D Total waste of powder but WOW Rusty

Are the barns flat base available to everybody from barns? I went to their web sit and could find no mention of a new flat base , 195 gr. Mabe you fellows are customizing your own. If available from barns please describe the bullet. Is it a regular .40 , 195 flat base, pointy, spit fire? Wayles

You hafta call and order, there is a thread with the ###,,,
I shot these this afternoon at 180 yards,,54 grains 4198,,,, I ended up with a 2 inch by one inch vertical group but the shooting conditions were less than Idea, Had the lead sled but had to shoot off of my tailgate from a crouched standing position,,,, kinda awkward, I also shot at 100 yards,,,
at 180 yards the group averaged 5.25 inches low,,, at 100 yards I was dead on and 1.5 inches in a triangle for 3 shots, this puzzled me as I thought I would be higher at 100 after the other shots I have taken at 80 yards where I was .75inch high,,, came home and shot at 80 again and I was .25 inch high and dead on with 2 shots,,, so I'm not that supprised with the other impacts.... the earlier higher group of 3 was with a freshly cleaned barrel,,,, now that is is fouled it seems to have moved down slightly, all I have done between shots is to swab with a clean patch a few time till smooth. Gonna adjust up to an inch high at 80 and go hunting, that should put me reallllly close to the same trajectory as the 200sst load I have hunted with for the last 2 years,,, within an inch out to 130yards, 2 inches low at 150, 6 inches low at 200, and 14 or so at 250......... all my shots tend to be inside of 80 yards anyway

due to the overall weight of the gun cutting a few inches of barrel didn't make that much difference,,,, wish I could have gotten much more of a sporter taper on the barrel,,
and I think I can darn near duplicate the above load performance with a milder load of 4759,,, in the low to mid 30's say.
