I am so happy.I hope the picture shows up.Here is the best 3 shot group i have ever had with a muzzle loader.Shot 3,4, and 5 were heavily knurled 200 grain sst's. Shot #1 knurled .45 xtp knurled sabotless. Shot #5 lightly knurled .40 sst 200 grain.I think Im finally onto something here.I used 2 files to knurl the bullet. One lying flat on the table while rolling the bullets with the one over the top.2,3,4,and 5 i used Harvester blue smooth sabot. The hole in the upper left is where i pulled the target from the board

So, heavily knurled 40s in sabot. Sounds like kinda bigger bore combined with that 20 twist the boolits wern't picking up the spin and slipping in the sabot. I guess the knurling made them bigger and griped the sabot too. Sounds good anyway. congrats, 10

10ga I was thinking the same thing. When i paper patched the same bullets. They measured .408 and were pretty tight going down the bore. When i say heavily knurled.I mean 2 files and all of my 260lbs.But they were not nearly as tight while loading.Of course one good group doesn't mean a lot.But i do believe I'm finally headed in the right direction. Thanks again everyone for your help.Billy

you may want to get hold of a light cross thread wood rasp,, they leave marks like the old buffalo bullets had on them work really well, look like little diamonds

I've got a nicholson 12" cross cut (bastard?) file that does that. Really works nice.

I have put a few more loads down range since I started this thread.I'm just so excited about the up coming muzzle loader season. To think it could go from a piece of junk to a great shooting rifle.Just by leaning on the file a little harder is amazing.I'm happier than a pig in slop and can hardly wait for opening day.Thank you everyone.Billy
