think barnes would ever consider a 225-240 grn tipped 40 cal bullet, that would be a long range nanny fetcher....Bill

For you guys that have shot the barnes .40 for a while... was the base on the "old" 195 ever as flat as the XTP is?
Do you think the new barnes version will be as flat?
I'm seriously thinking about chucking up the 24 pack I have in a metal lathe and matching the XTP base. They are radiused, but I can't tell from the pics if they are as radiused as the old or new, so figure I'll just eliminate the variable entirely.

I bet they are like the old as I don't think the new are out yet in a 24 pack,,,, as long as you had them nice and square I don't see how it could hurt anything,,,

Guess I'll see how they shoot and if they blow, I'll flatten them.

Marty..........I have actually had some pretty good groups with the ones I have. The load that blew the last one was not as hot as others I have shot so....... ? They are probably right on the edge of poking thru the sabots? I may still try to pick up some .40 cal. wads and seat them under the bullet inside the sabot and see what happens. I would hate to buy 1,000 of them and they don't work, but maybe I can hawk some off a local back powder shooter ;D Richard Richard ,please bear with an ole man ONE MORE TIME and Thanks for the many times you have patiently listened to my ramblins;) I guess I misunderstood SW about using a wool wad. I thought he told me to place the wool wad UNDER the sabot? are you saying INSIDE THE SABOT UNDER THE BULLET and what is supposed to happen if this is successful? Thank you Sir, Rusty

My new BX's aren't as flat as the xtp, but they're close. The old ones are no where near as flat as the xtp. Mail man didn't stop today for some reason. But I'll get those 30 out to you on monday, so you should be able to see for yourself on Wednesday.

Rusty.........No, SW was right! You would put the wad under the sabot............But I see no reason to do so? I have shot to over 3100 fps with no wad of any type and did not blow a sabot? I had actually thought about getting some .40 diameter veggie wads to put under the "bullet". Shooter sent me some but they turned out to be .40 wads (for use with .40 saboted bullets) NOT .40 diameter And never mind that" old man stuff!" I got four years on you and I'm not old..............just "older!" ;D Richard
