I received a call from Ryan @ Barnes today.I have wonderful news for you 195 Barnes fans! It seems someone wanted to maximize the depth of the nose cavity in the 195 Barnes,as a result this increased the base radius due to the force exerted to achieve this task in the manufacturing process.Due to the overwhelming response of this boards members it was brought to their attention that this was a issue in our .45s and they have taken steps to correct this! They assured me that the base would remain flat from now on.BUT,if you buy them from anyone other than Barnes in the immediate future you run the risk of getting the wrong ones.Ryan told me that if you call Barnes and speak to any of them in the technical department and tell them that you are shooting a Savage and ask specifically for the flat based ones as they have both on hand. This will be the case until the present stock with the increased radius is used up and there will be no more of them! I forgot to add that they will sell them in bulk with out the sabot for $65 for 75 bullets.

Sweet. Any chance he told you how long the problem has been present, so I can tell if the pack I bought earlier this year is affected? Perhaps by measuring the hole depth? If someone has a good flat one, could they please measure and post it?

You didn't happen to mention that Mid-South is selling them for three cents a bullet cheaper including the sabot and all the plastic packaging ? Yeah, I know, but they have the rounded base For now, anyway! Richard

I just got an e-mail from Ryan at Barnes and here it is along with my response. ----- Original Message ----- From: Customer Service To: 'Richard DeSimone' Sent: Wednesday, September 29, 2010 10:51 AM Subject: RE: bulk MZ bullets Richard, These are ready for sale on our store website. Here is the link: barnesbullets.myshopify.com/products/45-cal-400-195-gr-expander-mz-per-75wo-sabots Thank you for your patronage and let us know if there is anything we can do. Sincerely, Ryan Keele | Consumer Services / Tech Support Barnes Bullets, LLC 38 North Frontage Rd, PO Box 620, Mona, UT 84645 Phone: 435-856-1000 | Direct Line: 435-856-1111 | Fax: 435-856-1040 Ryan............will these be the ones with the "FLAT" base??? Also, will Mid-South and others be selling them packaged 75 per box? As it is, Mid-South is selling the 24 pack with sabots for $19 and change...........which comes out to $0.83 per bullet. At $65 for 75 bullets it comes out to $0.86 per bullet and no sabots? I understand that very often manufacturers have to sell for "retail" so as not to undercut their distributors. With that in mind, would say............Mid-South be possibly selling them cheaper than you? My original train of thought was that you could sell in bulk with basic packaging (cardboard box) and no sabots for less money. That is not what is happening with this deal unless the distributors can discount. I would appreciate a reply. Thanks Richard

Well, I haven't looked through the 195 and 175 gr Barnes, I got from Knight, to see if all the bases are the same. I bought 500 @ .70 each, so I WILL be shooting them, even if I have to back off to 2500 fps instead of 3000. It sorta chaps my hide for Barnes to charge 87 cents apiece, when it is less costly for them to bulk pack them. I've been in retail a long time. It often costs as much or more for packaging than the product itself costs to manufacture. They don't even need a cardboard box. You can buy heavy mil ziploc bags for less than 5 cents each, probably more like 2 cents in bulk. Just doesn't seem right. Boarhog

Boarhog No, it doesn't, but I can seem them not wanting to compete against their main distribution channels, their vendors. What we now need to do is get someone on Midway or Midsouth to start offering them in bulk. Selling in bulk is relatively new for Barnes, chances are some distributors don't even know they are available that way. Someone wanta contact midway?
