Thanks to all of the great info on this board I now have what seems to be a good load for my gun: 63 grains of RL 7, 300g SST, mmp sabots @ 2320 fps and groups as well as I can shoot. (some days that isn't saying much) No more sabot disruption, flyers (so far), or shifts in POI. My concern now is whether anyone has experienced any problems with temperature sensitivity with this powder with similar loads as I live in balmy Alberta where it can go to -30 in hunting season. And speaking from experience things usually go wrong when there's a buck in my scope and not a paper target! Thank you to all who post here, you have saved me literally hours of time and frustration and I am indebted. I apologize if this info is already posted, couldn't find it though.

63 gr with 300 gr bullets is my favorite load in the .50. Can't say that I've used it at 30 below but I have shot a few deer with snow on the ground, perhaps down into the teens, had it out in miserable wet weather, intentionally brought it inside and back outside to subject it to large temp changes, left it loaded from deer season to the following spring and it has never let me down. It's also double based powder which can't hurt reliability.

Here's a quote from member rbinar that was in a thread from last year. "Alliant Reloader #7 (RL7) is much the same burning speed as H4198. It could be a little faster due to a higher bulk density but they are close. It is as useful as the two above but for whatever reason not as popular. Some of the best speed/reliability seen is with RL7. It seems it should be a lot more popular but time will tell. Like H4198 it makes power in abundance in a 50 caliber rifle. However it is very easy to ignite and I encourage it for those who worry about ignition cold weather sensitivity and other reliability issues." Here is the entire thread. Good luck this season! dougsmessageboards.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=smokeless&action=display&thread=1535

I have had excellent results with R7. I have used it down to about 10 F. No ignition problems. Make sure you put solid pressure on the bullet when seating, and use tight sabot bullet fit.
R7 is also great in centerfire (45-70).

No issues with R7 here either... went to it from I4198 and do not regret it one bit... using 70gn with 300gn BO and Blk Crush Rib Sabot.

I don't remember what loading I used, but I used it with the 300gr Hornady HP for a season in my 50Cal before I converted to 45cal. I used it during an Iowa winter without any issues, which probably means anywhere to single digit to sub-zero, but I don't recall exactly.
As I recall, it's got some glycerin cotent which also aids in ignition.

Don't be afraid to start lower with the 300 gr bullets. Otherwise, you may risk missing out on the most accurate load you'll ever see.
