At the range today I'm minding my own business and after a couple of shots (load info not important but 41.5 4759, 250 xtp in MMP sabot) click no bang, recock click again. I repeated this for about 3 primers (both CCI and win 209). I took the bolt apart cleaned it, put it back together and the gun fired. I then ran 3 or 4 primers, they went bang, the next 2 click no bang. The primer is pushed out very visably even after a click to free it up. The caps I'm popping seem to be pushing out more that they usually do (this could me just trying to come up with what's going on. The ones that don't fire are very lightly dented even after 2 or 3 click no bang. I'm guessing that maybe the breech plug needs replaced but this gun has not been shot that much. Any one else have any sujestions. Thanks Ron

checked and the bolt is clear. It's been in this same stock for 3 or 4 years with out a hitch last week the bolt started taking 2 snaps on the primer i fire before I load, and this week this started seems to be a progressive thing.

Although unlikely, it is possible the firing pin spring is getting weak. Is the firing pin indenting the primer well? Also, loosen the rear action screw a half turn and try it. I would remove the bolt and examine it carefully. Especially to determine how far the firing pin extends through the firing pin hole in the face of the bolt. Sometimes it takes some careful troubleshooting to find the problem. Good luck and keep us informed. It isn't a big problem, just a small one giving big headaches.

When I had lightly dented primers, when I first bought the Savage, I had to run solvent in the firing pin (Blaster) and that freed it up. Maybe yours has gotten crudded up enough, that it needs cleaning and lube. Pete

check the sear travel, when I changed stocks I had to dremel out the back slot in the trigger guard to get full travel. if your action has settled or the guard is going deeper into the stock this could very well be your problem.

take the guard out and replace the rear screw to about correct depth and then try to pop a primer, I bet this is your problem...BILL

not sure what I did but I think I got it. One of the old post had something from me about maybe a bit of crud in front of the breech plug, so I pulled the plug and CLEANED the thread area really well, took the bolt apart again (a couple more pieces came out that I didn't know came out, the cross pin and the bolt face to be exact) cleaned all that twice put it back to gether put on my muffs and it popped 5 in a row, and the binding that was there when removing the spent primer this am is gone. THANKs for the help

I had the same thing happen on mine last year on my first outing with the gun. I don't remember how I fixed it, but eventually got it working.
