Read/saved the info and link in the "Headspacing" thread started by mapleramrod. Just received a SS MLII barrel offen a guy who got a pacnor. Will take my blue MLII barrel off and install the MLII SS barrel. Other than take the sights and thimble off if they don't align after headspacing how to headspace/align all? If there is a link be glad to follow it. Thanks, 10 ga

There was an article by SW on how to head space your barrel. Darned if I can find it??? I thought it was in the Hints and Tips? I'm sure when Edge reads this, he will know where it is so stand by for his response. If necessary, PM me and I'll give you my number and can talk you thru it. Its easy. Richard

Headspacing the standard ML with sights is rarely perfect, but I would not worry too much about the headspacing.
With no primer but bolt closed, screw in barrel until the breechplug hits the boltface. Back off barrel until the sights are square on top, use a level. Snug barrel nut and load a primer. If the primer loads tighten the nut and you are set to go with iron sights or scope.

I have to agree with Edge. Even if your one full turn off your only talking .050". Just put a scope mount on to get your level on the action and a level on the rear sight. I would not go off the ejection/loading port unless I checked it first.

I tried to use the Midway Level level level outfit to square the scope on my first 50 Savage. It wouldn't work because the ejection port wasn't ground square with the scope bases. I finally gave up and just did it the old fashioned way,,,, by eye!

I've got a 10" cabinetmakers lever but that probably won't help. You're my kinda guy boarhog so that's the first effort. And if it don't suit I'll do it again. Thanks all for the help. Rebarrel is tentativly scheduled for Tuesday evening. I'll let all know how it went. 10

SNIP. I finally gave up and just did it the old fashioned way,,,, by eye! IMO, how the rifle comes to your eye is what matters! I would much prefer a scope that sits level to my way of holding the stock then something that may actually be level! Now perhaps you should adjust the stock so that the action / scope is square, but IMO you don't want to fight the stock to level up the cross hairs! edge.
