After viewing Al's excellent posting of 1/2 sectioned .458 bullets in which he featured a 300grn .458 Speer Unicore bullet that had what seamed at least to my eyes, the thickest jacket of the non-pointed bullets drove me to post the fallowing two questions:
<>#1-Has anyone developed one or more accurate loads for the .50 cal 10ML-II at both 100 & 200yrds, and.... <>#2-Has anyone used them enough times on deer to be able to give a fair evaluation of the terminal performance on deer sized game.
I am reasonably sure I am not the only one thinking these two questions after viewing Al's excellent post.
Thanks, Arthur.

Art, can't answer your questions but this bullet has a few things in it's favor. One, the copper is electroplated to the core, so it should hold together very well. Two, I believe it's a rifle bullet for the 45/70 so should work well at our velocities.
I wouldn't hesitate to substitute it in any accurate 300 grain load. Note that if these are like the 250gr gold dots I have, the base is more cupped, so don't know if that will affect sabot integrity or not when the big light hits.

I use the uni-cores in my MK85 over 3F 777. They shot very well out of that gun at the speeds it produces and I have put the smack-down on deer out to 175 yards with that gun. All but one never made it more than 10 yards from where it was shot. That one only went about 75 yards and was shot by a friend who was borrowing the gun. Have yet to locate a bullet as all have been pass thrus showing good expansion and shock trails. Remember this is pushing them at about 1800 fps out of my MK.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have in the past recovered 300grn XTPs from back stop sand that had a MV of around 2300 (65grns of IMR4198) and they were still in one piece and extremely well mushroomed.
The Speer Unicore being a bonded bullet with what aperes to my eyes a thicker jacket than the 300/XTP should if anything hold up even better than the XTP at the same FPS. I will get some and try them out and report my findings.
Would appreciate any one elses experiences and loads that has shot the 300/.458 Unicore.
Arthur.

I usta use the speer 300 grain protected flat point in .451 in my savage when it was a .50 cal,,, got great results on deer and hogs, only had one not exit with good damage and that bullet traveled through 30 inches of deer and hit several major bones before breaking the femor and lodging in the ham. Great bullets but I couldn't get them to shoot sabotless the jacket is to hard and would not knurl up.
