[glow=red,2,300]Sorry Guys I messed up, IT was 39 not 37grains of 4759 that blew the sabot, I just typed it in wrong, a dangerous mistake and I apologize[/glow]
Leave it to me,,,, Was messing with the 21 inch .45 pacnor and 200SST, Harvester light blue.
I need to keep the recoil down and the short barrel means If I shoot over 54 grains 4198 I get a really big fireball,
So i figured I'd start low and work up with 4759,, [glow=red,2,300]with 39 grains [/glow]the first 2 were 1 inch apart at 100 yards,,, then #3 blew the sabot, missed the whole target and all I found was the center of the sabot and one pedal,,, other 2 sabots were A OK not stressed at all. All shots were at least an hour apart, to dark to shoot any more and started pouring rain
I can't see that being a high pressure load??? any sugestions?

I was checking a while back about 4759 in a 45 cal and was told that it builds to much pressure in a 45. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me will give you the heads up on this powder in a 45 cal.

:)pp if you blew a sabot you already have your answer.why don't you try some 4227 i think it will probably be perfect for you at that charge level or back off on your 4759 a few grains till you stop blowing sabots?goodluck

Yeppers I'll back down a little more but probably will loose to much speed if I drop much more,,,, 2200-2300 is OK for my woods hunting as leaves are still on all ML season here.
I have 4227 in the metal can from years ago, was the go to powder for 300 grainers in my factory ML2,,,,, bet it still works

pp..........Your 21" PN is not that far away from my 23" PN! It seems like there are so many good combinations that should work for you and not blow sabots? Have you tried any duplexes yet? I would think that something like maybe 5 gr. of N-110 or 5744 under say..........50 to 55 gr. of H-322. If I can shoot 15/55 of that combination and easily get into the 2800 fps. area, 5/50 should be a viable combination for you ? Clean or dirty barrel? If dirty, try a slight cleaning. Possibly a rough bore condition is contributing to the sabot failure. I know at 2900 + fps from my rifle, I am on the ragged edge of sabot failure. If not for cooling and slight cleaning that I also would be blowing sabots on a regular basis. Richard

I'm really not after speed and have always shyed away from the Duplexs,,, my shoulder is much better but a hard kick still causes a couple days of discomfort,,, shooting two loads of 54 gains 4198 and a 200 SST in the harv, light blue caused me a few days of pain last year when I shot the wild hog, that load shoots well in my gun, have taken 4 deer and a hog with that combo and it is plenty fast enough for me.
My bore only had 3 shots through it since cleaned when the sabot blew,,,,,I'll mess around with it some more

Waha,,,, 36 grains SR4759 gave me a .35 x 1.5 inch center to center 5 shot group that looks like one wavy line from left to right at 100yards, Sabots are fine although velosity should only be in the 2000fps range as a wild guess, verrry low recoil,,, the 1.5 Hor. group could still be me trying to get used to the front rest on the lead sled,,, it's just not that solid for me.
This could be a great load to use the 200gr XTP in the woods, although I'm not sure how the 200sst will perform at that speed

I shoot 37 gr of VV110 in my 26" barrel at 2590 fps with a 180 Barnes and it's about max. 4759 should be about the same. I'll bet it's faster than 2000 fps. Mine shoots less than 1" groups at 100 yds and is very consistent. I took 13 deer with it this year from 58 to 220 yds, all 1 shot kills. I think you have found a good load. Hope this helps.

Pposey. Richard had the same problem with his lead sled. If you look back he had a great cure for it. Jon

This is going to sound crazy and/or far-fetched, but my .45 PacNor routinely blows the petals off sabots, even at 2400fps, yet all the accuracy I would ever want is there, with sub-MOA groups.
??
This happens with the solid coppers that have been knurled to a bit past .400 and the blue Harvesters. A petal here, a base there, and the only time accuracy has been negatively effected was when a base apparently stuck to the bullet (large hole), but that was still on the target, around six inches from the group.

Danno, From what I have learned, here at dougs, through hundreds of questions and my own experience, loosing sabot petals means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. What happens when the bullet leaves the barrel is unimportant. IMHO

Nope the one I blew was gone,,, all I found was the disk that sets right under the bullet, the sabot skirt was gone as were the pedals,,,,
One thing I messed up on though, [glow=red,2,300]It was 39 grains 4759 [/glow]that blew the sabot,,, have it written down correctly and just typed it wrong,,,,, I had used that load sabotless before and had really good groups, 1.5 or so but it is a no go with a sabot.

Ron Awww man that sounds great! I'm gonna play with it some more, work on the front rest some and see if I can tighten the Horizontal group up,,,, another factor is that I just mounted a new scope, I'm sure the mounts and rings are secure as I simply lifted the top of the rings off of the old scope and put on the new and the the new scope may have an issue holding Horizontal adjustment.

My son-in-law also shoots the same 37 gr VV110 load in his 28" 45 cal SMI (around 2600 fps) and it groups a little over an inch at 100 using the 200 SST. I think it is worth trying some more especially if you want a low recoil load.

Shot 2 yesterday with 36 grains 4759, they made a figure 8 dead center,,,, will get another 5-6 into the same target over the week and see how they do, I messed with the front bag on the lead sled and firmed it up a little,,, might help

pposey; I was wondering how your 36 grain loads of 4759 performed? If you reduce the 4198 down to say 50 grains, is that enough pressure for the 4198 to shoot accurately?

I have shot 15 or so loads of the 36 grains 4759 and all were 2moa in the a same group, but I did have one blown sabot that missed the whole board,,, I think 4759 is just to fast and builds to much pressure to fast. I've shot 4 shots of 36 grains 4759 and a veggie wad now and they are 1.5moa, sabot bases look almost new using the vegie wad..
I've been told over and over that going that low with 4198 will not work well,,, have not tried it, above 54 grains I start getting more recoil and muzzle flash and less gain in speed, I'm shooting a 21 inch pacnor .45.....

:)hunter 50grs of 4198 in a .45 would be a very low pressure load which would probably result in inconsistent results threw different weather conditions. If you are looking to shoot less powder in the 50gr area look at 4227.

50 gr 4227,,, I Figured that would be a really hot load?

I've used H4227 and at 33gr avg velocity was around 2000fps.

:)op you are correct 50grs of 4227 is probably max before blowing sabots. If someone wanted to play with this powder start at 43grs and work up. I have shot 50grs and it is on the edge. If I remember correctly 50grs gave me around 2600fps. Short barrel guys might benefit from it.
