I would use 165 data and work up,watching for pressure signs.Or you can use 155 data.

Hornady has some info on their website for the 160 in a 30-30 but not the '06. Right side of the page towards the bottom, hope this helps.

Yeah, that 160 gr FTX. 30-30 load is with the new IMR 8028 XBR powder. I haven't checked to see if it has application for 06. What Herman said seems very good advice. Use 165 gr 06 data, start 10-15% below max and work up. You might find that the 160 FTX is a bit fragile for 30-06, but I was impressed how well it held up on a deer shot at less than 20 yds with my 30-30. Broke major bones and passed through. DRT Probably hit at around 2100+ fps. I will be interested to see a report on your results.

At higher speeds they may open up kinda fast and not hold together well, after all they were designed to max out the 30-30, not the much faster 30-06,,,,

if I remember correctly starting loads of 4895 are suppose to give you 30-30 velocities. Might be something to play with

Folks: I appreciate the feedback. Loaded "down" the 4895 with good results. Found out about using ex-military brass, too. As purchased, the ex-military is puffed up a bit to much to chamber well in my 721 Remington. Works with Garands or other military semi-auto though.
