Managed to get away from school and got this guy up about 3400 feet, very very windy but the critters were moving, saw this guy at 50 yards, a small bear at 25 yards, and a great horned owl at about 30 feet. Was still hunting and the deer was feeding, he was behind a large blowdown when I saw him and the only shot I had when he finally caught my scent was a mid neck shot, as he was looking for me I shot and he dropped there. 1.5 hour hike in and up up up, and a 2 hour drag out,,, whewwwwwww very happy though.

Nice deer. Hope the adrenaline rush lasted the whole 2hr drag out! Having hunted in IA all my life, I can't even imagine a 2hr drag.

Thanks all,,, you can still get way back up and away from all around here in a few places,, pretty much the only people I ever see back in there are AT hikers. Lots of laural thickets and rock cliffs. And a few deer.
