I haven't been around much lately. Been busy with some chores, making sausage, jerky, helping a friend cut his elk and antelope etc. Anxiously waiting for my grandson to get out of hospital. He's 3 months old and went from a birth weight of 1lb 10oz to 5lb 9oz. He's doing well but has a couple of issues which keeps him in hospital but should be out any day. Can't wait to hold him .
Anyway, I have been hunting but haven't seen much that I wanted to shoot. I have 2 mulie doe tags that when filled earn me a buck tag. Mulies does seem scarce this year. I have a whitetail doe tag and have seen several but have been leaving them for bait for a buck that would eventually be following the doe. I also have a whitetail buck tag and really want the 6 x 6 I saw last year and know is still around.
This year I'm using my 300 WSM with 165 hornady interlock. Several mornings no shots fired. Then one morning 3 coyotes ran by. 3rd one was the unlucky one. The 300 WSM flattened him and he's now magpie, raven and coyoted food ;D. A week ago I saw my first mulie doe. Bang flop. This past Saturday
a whitetail buck appeared. Not the big guy I want but there's only a little over a week left in the season to he's now in my freezer. He was a 5 x 5 but not that big plus the main beam was broke off. Lost about 5 or 6 inche there. Also his G3 was broke off and only half still there.
As I said there's only a little over a week left but I'll be back out a couple times.
