dos anyone know about these? my friend has one in 30-06 i was wondering how good they shot and what grain bullets they seem to like why i ask is i never shot one i had the ultra slugger which shot good but he said he slipped on the ice and the rifle took a hard hit and he wanted to know if it was off so i took it to the range with my guns well it was 6in high at 50 so i took it down and shot what you might call a group 3in went to 100 and the best i could do was 4 to 5 inch groups with 180gr rem core lock i did see 2 other guys with the same gun at the range before and theirs didn't shoot much better in 223 and 30-06 is that normal or do you think its the scope? or do they like a different bullet weight? got frustrated and shot mine ahh nice and tight so it wasn't me any input would help thanks kevin k

Some shoot well and some don't. Trigger pull doesn't help much. They're capable of very good accuracy when everything is right though. I've got a 26 inch barrelled 35 Whelen that does very well but can be finicky at times if your shooting technique isn't right. They're bad about scope mounts working loose and the forearms getting out of whack. There's a big group of followers over on Graybeard Outdoors that can probably answer your questions better.

I have a 25/06 in a heavy varmint. The barrel is heavy, but I'm pretty sure that H&R is referring to the trigger pull. My friend wanted me to wring it out and work up a good reload. I tried 3 different weights of bullets and 4 different powders and the best groups are 2 1/2" @ 100 yds. I own a Rem 700 25/06 Varmint with a washed out barrel and it still groups at an inch. Most of the H&R handi rifles seemed to bulge the cases at the extractor rendering some unreloadable. I've had friends that owned them in .223, .22 Hornet, .243 and none of the ones that I saw grouped very well at all. It's probably one of those "you get what you pay for things". Good Luck!

I had a .223 H&R and it shot 1 1/2" groups. I tried all kinds of different loads and bullets but never could get it any better, so I sold it. Mike

I had one a few years back in 22 rim. I bought it because it was so handy. It just felt good and was fun to shoot. The novelty wore off as it had a horrible trigger. I just could not shoot a good group with it. I took it all apart to work on the trigger and the innards were junk. I came to the conclusion it wasn't worth the effort to try to fix the trigger and sold it. It still sits in a local gunshop, with a different (cheap scope on it). I think some other sucker bought it, put a new scope on it, and promptly sold it back to the gun shop after figuring out the trigger was junk.

We bought a 243 NEF handy Rifle for my Grandson a couple of years back. I wouldn't buy another. We have tried a number of factory and handloads (7-10), and have yet to find a load the rifle likes. 3" groups would be wonderful! Most loads we've tried were more like 6-10". A trip back to NEF didn't accomplish much. They sent it back with a 3" test group using 80 gr varmit loads. Since we are mostly hunting deer, we are trying a few loads with 85 gr Nosler Partitions, and 85 gr Sierra BTHP Game Kings. If we can't get better results, it will be time to trade this POJ.

I worked up some loads for my uncles in .308 win this year, 150 grain Bts going 2800fps were grouping .5 inch at 80 yards, it shot very very well, many times the first 2 shots were touching. I did notice a couple of things though, it did not shoot well at all with a clean barrel, groups improved after 4-5 shots after cleaning, It also did not like to go any faster. Groups opened up to 3 inches when just cleaned and with another grain of powder opened up to 1.5 inches with no increase in pressure signs.
His is new and the barrel to reciever fit is really nice and tight, I think this helps alot with accuracy, also it seemed pickier about being clean vs fouled and bullet speed than any other gun I've ever loaded for.

hey thanks guys! pposey i think you hit it right when i grab the barrel and the stock it will give at the breach back and fourth when taken apart the pin only rides on half of the holder im sending it in to see what they can do for it. if nothing he might as well use a bow. it shoots good at 25 yards and opens up to 3 to 3.5 at 50 what a joke i think your right with the nice and tight and also with the dirty barrel the groups got tighter to what i posted. clean they were worse far worse thanks again
