Archery hunted for about 55 years now. Getting older and standing up in a tree stand that's 22' in the air, is starting to get a little intimidating. Yes, I'm hooked up before leaving the ground and it remains hooked until I'm on the ground. Falling even with a harness is violent.
Had the Excalibur, Tenpoint and Mission I was looking over. Finally chose the Mission MXB-360 the XB Pro scope. For the first time, I also went with a mechanical broadhead.
So far and just at target, I found out how really accurate one of these can be. Easy to cock and I purchased the crossbow defuser, for letting it down after hunting, so I don't have to carry a target or fire it. I like the fact that you can completely take the pressure off the limbs, and change a string, just by turning a couple bolts. That'll be nice for storage during the off season. Looking forward to hunting with it...

The Mission is a nice quiet crossbow, I shot one for a season and killed a few deer with it. I went to an Excalibur last season and really love it. SW is the man as far as xbows go, he's killed a bunch with them.

On the other hand, Mike, smokepolehall, has used Excaliburs for 15 + years, I understand, is a leading Excal string maker, and shoots Missions also, I think. I love my Excals and reaching fairly far out there.

I love crossbows that become vintage rather than obsolete. Just try getting service or parts on a 6 year old Bowteck Strykeforce ($1300 top of the line Bowteck). They'll just replace it with a Solution #125 version of the Strikezone 350 (the lowest of their bows - yet very nice!). But even a 15 years old Excalibur will be serviced and have parts available. My 4 year old M405 is still my front line Xbow. >2,000 shots, still trouble free . As are the other two. All that said, if you don't mind something that is undergoing constant change, the compounds, especially the Reverse draws are mechanical marvels.

Good points Steve-- I understand Excalibur's warranty response is second to none. On the Excal forum there is example after example of their commitment to service.

I hope your addition isn't as bad as some. I have been into archery for as long as I can remember and that's been a long time. My shoulders are shot and I can't pull a bow for nothing so I have 3 x bows. Started with tenpoint a few years back and then got out of it so I sold that one. Coming back around I picked up a wicked ridge (good shooting crowsbow it shoots 100 broadheads within 1/2" of field points), then I saw a tenpoint turbo, really nice bow, very narrow and field points and broadheads fly nowhere near the same but the 75 muzzy and 100 field points do both group very well. A buddy brags on his excalibur grizzly, so I picked up a matrix LE 350 (it's not listed on there websight but yes it does exist). I haven't figured this one out yet but the grouping is close. Time will tell on this one but I think in the very least it will be my backup horizonal bow.

I'm up to 4 Excal's and 1 Solution. (2-405s, 1 M380, 1 BD400) All 4 Excal's will group FOC tipped Zombies with 1 1/2" 3-shot groups at 100 yds on a calm day using a Hart front rest and a rear #13.

The Excaliburs are unbelievably consistent. Great arrows, triggers (TT 2.5 & 1.5), strings, optics along with a great xbow can be pretty impressive. I don't think of any one of these 4 xbows holds an accuracy advantage over the others.

They are looking at major changes in our deer seasons for next year and they will make archery season much more important, more time and later time, so I am looking at getting an xbow as well, my compound is 20 years old and I have reacuring right shoulder issues,
What would be youalls suggestion for a xbow in the 500-600 dollar range, something that will last, be accurate and fairly quite, not necessarily the fastest wizzbang made but no slouch in speed.

Pposey, I just got a M405 with Cera Coat type rail finish and beautiful black finished limbs , 6 custom made Zombies, 2 strings, 1.5# TT installed, much better than new. Ever so slightly used supposedly. Is nicer than new. $750. The TT, Cera Coating, beautifully painted limbs, arrows , string. What a deal !!
Obviously, I'd get an Excalibur of some sort. The Excalibur forum has a trading post. Where I'd look. Personally, I'd consider a Matrix 350 LE or SE, or a 380 or 405. Get a C-2 cocking aid. Next option is a BD400. Then there is the original width Vortex (200#, 330'/sec with 350g arrow). I love this xbow and it's more modern counterpart, the M330. These all show up on the trading post board. I'm just not a Micro/Suppressor fan. But that's just me. Many knowledgeable Excal people love them.
Hope this helps some: at least one person's perspective.
