Believe me, after shooting 68 gr. IMR 4198 with a 250 .458 monoflex loaded under a solid aluminum ram rod with a spinjag , 60 felt pretty old for a day or so. I shot it more than any gun I ever owned by far. In the 8 yrs. I've owned it I never thought for a second it couldn't happen especially after seeing some of the best shooters on this site wreck barrels over the years. I always thought if he can slip up then I really need to to be double careful. Looking back I would like to give some feeble advice. If you have a loading and shooting regimen that works that you have used long enough to be habit.Don't change the smallest thing without great thought. And if you are starting a shooting session and catch yourself making small mistakes or start picking things up out of order setting them back down , please put the gun back in the case go home play with the kids or spend some time with your wife , come to shoot later. Just talking from experience. Also I think the .45 is a good thing but there is a difference in doing it cause your ready or because you screwed up and forced myself to. I use a wad of tape that won't fit in the barrel so I know if I forgot the powder. A double load will put the tape a mile from the muzzle so that's obvious too. Quite often my SML with its thumbhole stock draws onlookers as soon as I pour the powder down the muzzle. Easy to make a big mistake with 6 guys shooting questions at you while you're trying to load. I had the witness mark , I just plain shot the ramrod. For years I went to the hay field to shoot and for some reason I started shooting up by the house and on the last shot my wife stuck head out the kitchen door and said something as I was finishing loading and I stopped to talk to her. So your right , I can't talk and shoot at the same time. The first thing my wife said afterwards was " Boy , that really looks like fun! "

I can't have anyone around me when I am shooting muzzleloaders. Fortunately I have a place I can shoot that gives me the privacy I need. I just can't chance the distraction.

Got my ml2 back from Luke last night with a pacnor .45 barrel . Had it sighted in at 100 in 5 shots. I just wanted to thank Luke and everybody here for all the support and advice. After talking to sw I settled on 35 gr. n110 and everything fell right in place. Thanks again you all made it easy.

N110 is a fantastic powder. If you can live with the max velocity it gives at safe pressures, I don't think it can be beat.
