So I bought my first savage ml10 about 5 years ago. It is the blue barrel with camp synthetic stock. I decided to go shoot the stock open sights before I messed with the scope. I couldn't get the gun on paper at 25 yards! I was consistently high and left. So much so.... That I couldn't get enough adjustment out of the rear sight to zero the gun. I put a scope on it and was able to zero the gun and shoot 3" groups at 100 yards. It was good enough to hunt and I have killed some good deer...... But something always seemed "off" and I was never 100% confident with the setup. I loved the savage ML... And when I heard that savage was discontinuing the gun, I bought a second one. I swapped the scope over and the second gun has been my gun of choice for the last 2 years.
So I'm contemplating what to do with my first gun..... I really think that the issues are due to the way that synthetic stock fits the action. I shoot left handed.... So I'm considering buying a stock from Sharp Shhooters Supply. Is there any reason I couldn't get this gun to actually shoot 1"moa?

Could be the stock, could also be the barrel. I replaced my tupperware with a boyds laminate and bedded it with devcon, my first bedding job (not as difficult as you think). I picked up a used .50 barrel from a member here, and have shot sub inch groups with it. All told I think I have 200 into making it a great shooter. If you have the money get a new .45 barrel and be done with it, but do the stock first.

IMO, To make it short and sweet as possible, I'd have it put in a new stock of choice and bedded, but it'd be wearing a .45 or a .40 barrel.

If you want to upgrade it, bedded a pillared into a new stock would be a good start. If it doesn't snap to around 1 MOA then the barrel may be the problem. How much better accuracy are you getting with the same load out of the newer rifle?
I wouldn't go with a SSS stock, I've been waiting on one for like 8 months.

On SSS stocks Rossman40's comment. If you want to shoot any time soon don't go SSS for a stock! Supposedly they are doing stocks now if you want one e-mail Lisa and check with her?

I shoot left handed.... What are the other stock options that are ambidextrous? I would hate to go through all this and still wind up with a right hand cheek comb... Thanks!

Can you just switch stock between both rifles and see if the problem follows?

If ever I get a wild hair to change stocks on my modified, laminated 10MLII, it will be a customized Boyd's ProVarmint they have for a bull-barreled Model 10 (IF the action holes are the same distance). I liked their LH Thumbhole at the range, but it seemed a little cumbersome in the field, so it got switched out for a ProVarmint on a 700ML, and it is a GREAT stock for the money. But then, 45omega's Manners Stock looks like a very good one for lefties, too if they have them for Savages: dougsmessageboards.proboards.com/thread/17677/rem-cf-bolt-416-shilen

Upgrading and bedding the stock would be a good place to start. As others have said, some Savage barrels just won't shoot. So you may have to upgrade barrel to get it to shoot. Also, as others have said, be prepared to wait a LONG time to get anything for SSS. I will not deal with them anymore after my last go around.

Thanks for the input. My current savage ml is shooting good enough, so I don't mind a total build. A few questions:
1. What are my options for a stock since I shoot left handed?
2. My gun is the synthetic/blue barrel. All the custom barrels are stainless... Does this look odd? Or is this a common combination?
3. I see that pac nor has some different barrel options.... Is there a typical one that you guys are going with?

The Boyds Provarminter is a bit more ambidextrous. If you go with a Richards Microfit you can spec a RH Action & LH Shooter for like $17 more. Boyds used to offer it but I do not know if they still do, you could call and ask. The Richards stocks are a lot of work, the Boyds is pretty much finished.
You can leave it "two tone" or have it finished with a spray-on finish. You could also nickel plate the action to match the barrel or nitride the SS barrel to match the action. I like the nickel plating because it ups the corrosion resistance and unlike a painted on finish, gets into every nook and cranny.
For a Savage I would go a #7 contour without fluting.

I called Boyds and they said they don't carry a provarminter for the savage ML......

I put a SS fluted barrel on my blued receiver. I drilled my third screw to match the Savage target action and went with the HS Precision 'LRPV' stock.
