Well, it's been a lil while since I've purchased both of these scopes so I thought I'd share my thoughts/comparisons. The Weaver: 2.5-10x56 (30mm) ill german The Vortex: 4-16x50 (30mm) standard x Clarity: probably a tie, if I had to declare a clear cut winner, I'd likely say the Weaver. Turrets: Vortex gets the win here, they are a little more crisp and predictable. Light gathering: No contest....Weaver wins Tracking: so far they both do exactly what you ask of them, no problems yet. Final: They are both quality scopes and I like them both, but if me personally were to do it again, I'd buy two Weaver's, especially if Natchez would ever get the 4-16 WCE in stock. I just don't believe the Vortex is worth the price difference, it may be backwards IMO. They are both good scopes, but I just prefer the light gathering and the illuminated reticle of the Weaver. To get a Vortex with the illuminated reticle, then the price is really up there and if I was gonna pay that kind of money, I'd buy the Weaver Super Slam Euro 4-20x50, because neither of these scopes compare to it. JMO I feel you could buy either of these scopes and be happy and satisfied, and everyone's eyes and opinions are different, just giving my honest opinion. Both good buys when bought on sale like I did.

Sorry mods. I likely should have put this thread elsewhere. My apologies and feel free to move it.

Sounds like your impression of the vortex is better now than when you first got it, but the weaver still suits you better. Those weavers are hard to beat when Natchez has their sales.

I have several of the WCEs and I like them. I bought one used and the illuminating "turret" rotated and I could not remove it to put in a new battery. About 2 weeks ago I sent it off to Weaver and we will see how I fare on that. I could use it without the illuminating feature but had concerns the battery may be corroded and doing internal damage. We shall see, I will report what happens.

The brown truck just brought my scope back. Fast turn around. No charge. It said there was a failure of the electronics. The battery cap was repaired in that I can remove it easily but the illuminating function does not work. The form said that unit was replaced, perhaps the battery? I can interchange it later with another to see if that is it or another issue.

Glad you got it back in a hurry, hopefully it's just the battery. Keep us posted. I plan on removing the cap on mine and lightly greasing the threads, in hopes to avoid any troubles of ever getting the cap off when the battery needs replaced.

You might want to use dielectric grease on that cap. Usually the cap is the negative connection point. Could be dead wrong on that on though.

I exchanged batteries. It is not the battery as both worked in my good WCE, neither worked in the repaired one. I will call again tomorrow. This scope might get more air miles than a frepuent flier. I could use it without the red dot but there are times when it might be handy.

They sent it back not working... I'm tempted to order one of these but am watching how this plays out.

I called this AM. I was not sure if they would be working on Veterans Day. The operator said they would get back with me yet today. I got a call about 15 minutes ago. The tech said it was illuminating when sent out. He said sometimes the contacts get grease on them or they get too much epoxy on the screw. He had me clean it with alcohol ( I only had Jack Daniels available, actually used rubbing alcohol, I was saving the Jack in case I had to send it back in). I actually think the problem was the epoxy held the battery proud of the contact. I removed the excess and it worked perfectly. So all and all I am pleased with their service. Quick turn around and the problem cleared up on the phone. Before I tried the clean up he had said we will make it right even to send someone to my door to pick it up. I did not ask for that and would not have done that. I was not demanding in any way, just inquiring about the same. So I am pleased with the service. When I went on the website for repair it initially said to send along a money order for $15. I would have happily done so but when I called to verify everything before shipping it to them and I mentioned enclosing the check the tech guy said no need to do that. I do not know if that is a changed policy but in any event other than my shipping cost to them there was no cost to me. I called him back to tell him the cleaning worked and to thank them. I would say any of you considering Weaver would be pleased with the outcome.

Just a heads up if someone was thinking about getting the Weaver Classic Extreme, Natchez has them on sale for pretty good prices now.

I have the Vortex Viper HS LR 4x16x50, and thought about upgrading for a little more magnification. I wonder if this would be worth it??? I paid around $550 for the vortex about 2 years ago.

When Guy brought them over for me to compare them, I set a scope box with the UPC bar code showing out about 25 yds and focused on the bar code. Clarity was pretty even to me and I will second what Guy said on the turrets.
Between these two scopes, Weaver would get my money if I was buying.
Glad to hear they took care of you Jims, sounds like great customer service.

What are you using for a base and rings to mount the Weaver Classic Extreme 2.5-10x56mm on your Savage ML? I have the newer round-round accutrigger model. Thanks

Thanks My WCE is mounted on a Rem ML build, I used a DNZ high mount. I have a 50mm Vortex on a flat back savage, mounted in Burris Tactical Mediums, which I believe the 56mm WCE would clear with these rings as well.

Never measured it but I'm sure it could be found, it's a Farrell one piece base from Luke.

With the Farrell base and the Burris Tactical rings, I believe I could have gotten by with Lows instead of mediums, but that's all I could get my hands on locally in a hurry. With the 50mm Vortex there is plenty of clearance, which leads me to believe the 56mm WCE would fit just fine. On the Rem, the 56mm WCE fits perfect with the DNZ high mount, not much room to spare..

I have a 4-16 Viper PST and it's the same. Very clear to 12X then gets a little darker. Nothing I can't live with for the money I have in it. That's why I didn't get a 6-24 PST.

I bought a WCE a few years back. After using it for a few months, I was on the lookout for another one.
As soon as Natchez had them in stock again I ordered another one. It's sitting in the closet as a spare if needed.
Great scope, good price!

I'm mounting a Weaver Classic Extreme 2.5-10x56 30mm tube on my uncles Savage 10ML II with the accutrigger which has the round front and back receiver base. In case anyone else is wondering.
Looks like .600" total height off of the receiver to the bottom of the scope tube would provide sufficient clearance between the scope bell and the barrel.

Along this same vein I hope to mount a 2.5x10 Weaver Classic Extreme on a stock .50 Savage round receiver large shank with the DedNutz medium 30 mm one piece system in medium height, #34200. I know this will be a tight fit but believe it will work. If anyone knows otherwise please let me and others know. The WCEs are really solid scopes for the $.

Does that WCE have a 56mm bell? I have a VXR 3-9x50 30mm on a Savage with medium DNZ and its just fits. Hopefully it works out for you but if not the high should work.
