On a stock savage MLII how do u tell whether it's large or small shank? Need to know before ordering a barrel. Tim

The large shank is bigger. In all seriousness if you had two side by side you could tell there is a difference. The small shank measures about 1.06, the large as I recall closer to 1.12. The action bolt spacing on the large shank as I recall was 4.4 inches, the small shank around 4.25 again from memory. Also the large shank barrel nut has a difference in the appearance of the collar on the barrel nut. Someone in the last week had a picture on the board showing that, that would tell the difference also. If you can locate that or someone on the board direct you to that you should be golden. I rather thought it was Rossman that showed the difference in a photo but unsure about that. I hope that does not confuse.

Sorry I missed that. The only time I feel a bit like Rossman is after I spent time at the Holiday Express The fellow should be good to go with that photo.
