I stopped at Gander Mountain to pick up a hunting license. They were not open for another 10 min but a crowd was already out front; old fat retired guys and fat firefighters. As soon as the doors opened they huffed and trundled to the gun counter where they made a run on the rimfire ammo. I nearly went into a black out rage. This is why I have to shoot 9mm,45ACP, and centerfire rifle for all my practice. That is not all bad since it is what I hunt and compete with but some time with a rimfire is good too for fixing things.

And the worst part of this is I bet none of them are going to be shooting that ammo anytime soon! Just hoarding it away or even worse marking it up and selling it. Go get your self a nice Savage in 17hmr and be done with this stupid 22 lr headache. 17HMR ammo is always on the shelf.

Yeah, it's insane in Arkansas too with the 22's. And don't even think about 22 shorts...my preferred urban round.
It's been almost 2 years since all that madness, you'd think it would calm down.

And here's another annoying occurrence with the 22 ammo, all these snot nose kids working at Gander Mountain, Bass Pro, Wal Mart etc...they tell all their buddies when the shipments are arriving.

I personally do not like quantity limits but that may be the only way there is some for everyone. Our local gunshop did that with gunpowder and now there seems always to be some available. Before that some from outside the area would come and just clean out the shelves of powder. That might be good in away in the short run for the shop but not in the long run for the rest of their customers. I suppose some of the retired might do that to supplement their income, just wish it did not have to be quite that way.

I know how you feel 7mm,I have not bought 22lr or 22wmr in years, none to be had.The local walmart has people working there who tip off guys like you saw when the shipments come in.Today I saw some 17win. super mags on the shelf and had the clerk show them to me,what a nice looking cartridge. I may have to buy a rifle in that caliber because it was the only rimfire ammo there. They were 14$ a box, same price as 17hmr amd 22wmr.

Go get your self a nice Savage in 17hmr and be done with this stupid 22 lr headache. 17HMR ammo is always on the shelf. Most have CF accuracy out to 150yds, to boot! Can't duplicate that with .22LR. Many say they are too frangible for small game, but from experience I've learned a broad side lung shot through the ribs or a head shot saves the meat. I've never even tried to make a 100yd head shot with a .22, but in little to no wind conditions it is very doable with a 17hmr.

I bought a .17HMR when they first came out but traded it a few years later. They are loud and suck in the wind but I may be buying another because .17HMR was the only rimfire ammo they didn't have a limit on today. Some fat old guy walked off with as much as he could fit between his chin and folded arms.

I have enough to shoot about 100 every other weekend as long as I can get a brick every couple of months. Lately it is more feasible to shoot .223 and bulk 77gn OTM. Pistol is where I really like to use rimfire. I recently got some Fed Auto Match and CCI Stingers but pistol ammo doesn't last like rifle ammo.

Yep it's sad that I can reload reduced load .223 about as cheap as .22lr

At Cabela's, BP GM, Dick's, all bigger chain stores they have had a limit on .22 ammo purchases for like 2 years and counting and it still doesn't help. My friend at Cabela;s said they are catching people hiding boxes in the store, of .22lr for them or their friends to by later. He said he wanted to ban them from the store but Mgmt said no. He said these idiot's must know their on camera, but do it anyways.
My boys are asking for a cheap rifle to shoot allot and I just might be buying another AR and downloading to keep costs at 22lr or .17
