you will have to get tuned up next year Richard and represent the board. It will be difficult to beat a .127 with anything, we will see if he can repeat next year. next year we need to do 300 with the groups as well, or we can even do five shot groups, not that the results would have been any different but maybe he will have a flyer..LOL

Sounds like a great time was had and some great shooting as well. Wish I could a made it, hopefully next year. Maybe Myers will be able to make it and have that 375 dialed in by then. I should have several rigs ready to bring for sure. (Like to sneak out and get some lessons before then so I wouldn't get embarrassed too bad, maybe deadeye would offer some up, along with some elk hunting tips...lol)

Somebody must have been prepared for the BS... picture #4 of hillbills photos has the biggest roll of toilet paper I have ever seen.
Just making a little fun. Looks like everyone had a great time and the shoot was a complete success.

It was a awesome shoot! I have to give Jeff and his family/crew a big congrats for putting on a great shoot for their first attempt. I didn't even go to shoot. I just attended for the chance to see some of my friends, to meet other board members and their rifles and somewhat represent the "management" of the board. I'm already making plans for next years shoot. I'll build something special.
It was awesome to see Jeff and Mark breakout the .416s. Jeff's is all polished out and had to be about the top rifle in the best looking category (I'll see how my pic turned out and if it does justice I'll post). Mark shot his prone and to watch the shockwave on the grass from the muzzlebrake was neat. Fishhawk tried to talk me into taking his down to shoot.
I think everybody shot pretty good. To be able to hit a dip can of Tannerite at 200, 300 and even beyond is shooting way tighter then "minute of deer". Some guys pulled a round on their group for record and were kicking themselves but that happens to the best. Shoot 50 or 60 rounds over the weekend but those 6 for the 100 and 200 groups were the ones that counted
As far as builders, a few of Hillbill's were there but I didn't see any of Richard's, Fishhawk's or mine there. There were no Badbulls, Big Dawgs, Ultimates or any other of the guys with claim of "most accurate muzzleloaders made". Even then I don't think they could have matched Jeff's group on a lucky day. The other guns were owner built and they can be proud of what they showed.
Great time and I hope it turns into a annual event.

If you notice the first picture you will see what I meant by out classed. Mine are the two in the gun case. Across the them are the 4 Hankins builds. The one with the green stock is the 416 he just got finished Thursday before the shoot. The last picture shows them better. There is glare on the 416 but that barrel and action is polished like a mirror.

Hunter, I wouldn't say you were out classed. If that grey/black spiderweb gun is yours I really dig it. I realize it's not flashy but it sure fits my ideal gun category. All great looking rigs.
Hankins, Good job on keeping those benches high. Short benches drive me crazy and it seems like they are the norm. I'll bet attendance is up if you have the shoot again next year. Good idea on the skoal cans also. I need to look and see if I still have them but I can send down about that many empty pellet tins for next year. I've been liquidating my life in anticipation of a move but if I still have them I will send to you a flat rate box.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt... Nice t-shirts too. Thanks Jeff! I had good intentions of taking some pictures, but the Hankins clan had the event pretty well covered with a video camera, so I just enjoyed the weekend and left the camera in my pocket.

Imo next year is going to be a much closer race....Jeff mentioned that was his best group ever ,but who knows he just might shoot a better one next year...... I mentioned in another thread that this event was "Doug's Message Board " LIVE.... Well I was going to shoot saboted a little bit and thought I might need a cooling rod...Rossman makes them so I just asked Hey Rossman you bring any with you" He said "yep" and walla I had a cooling rod....Thanks again Rossman..... I had a question or two about Hunter's boltnose and he was there to talk to about it....Pretty dang cool....thanks again Hunter....

Awesome pics of the event. Any of the winners willing to share their build / load recipe ? Yule... Not to be bragging to much but it's not bragging when you can back it up... The top five best groups were all shot from a Hankins Custom Rifles Muzzleloader. The receipt is not a secret,,, it is the load I shoot in all my 45 caliber muzzleloaders and that load is. 78 grains of IMR 4198 with a 275 grain Parker BE and a LRMP for the ignition. I claimed once before that I built the WORLD'S MOST ACCURATE MUZZLELOADER and I was asked to prove it..... Well I think this weekend did just do that... I shot a group at 100 yards that was measured by Hillbill and it came it at .127 MOA with 25 witnesses to back me up. I was told that, that group would probably hold the worlds record for a muzzleloader. So I am still laying claim to build the WORLD'S MOST ACCURATE MUZZLELOADER. When I came up with this challenge It was meant for the other builders that claim to build the best, most powerful ML's. I did not have one DOG show up for the fight and that's no BULL... However it stirred up a good crowd of guys that I never new existed from Dougs board and I can say I'm happy to have met each and every one of them. Building rifles is what I do every day. I worked several years on the system I am using in my ML's and even I learned a lot from the guys that showed up.. I might start installing the tungsten bushing in my plug so that it will last 1000's of round.. As it is now the most shots we have on one plug is around 500. That's more than most hunters will ever shoot but you guys here are in a different league as for the amount of shooting you do so the tungsten might help you out some.. All in all we had a great time... We will do it again next August so it you want to attend you are all welcome to join the fun.. Jeff. I believe the top five included two non Hankins rifles I I had to put apple on my head at 100 and pick someone to shoot it it would of been a Hankins. With that said his guns are set up for bench shooting. Flat foreend, fit snugly in front rest. But at 15+ lbs ill pass. The only major flaw I see with a Hankins is the powder funnel. On two occasions I had to tell a shooter to take funnel out of barrel. Disaster waiting to happen. Only matter of time. As far as hunting goes all were deer dead at 2 to 3 hundred. Unfortunately i don't have a 3 k bench scope. .8 oz trigger. But Hillbill built me a rifle that will do what I want. Harvest deer!!! My hats off to Jeff and his rifles. They shot well. But Deadeye was on his tail. Fine shooter. I bet next year we will have more to come to the bench! I will be better prepared. Had a fantastic time learned more in two days than 8 months on board. Great people!! Was a pleasure. But should I come next year and I plan to I will have my hunting rifle set up for the bench.

Again sounds like a great time. What hosed me this year is my company took away 6 days of my vacation. Leaves me little over 4 weeks this year and I didn't plan my days out as well. Still in the mind set of having 6 more days for vacation. Next year I hope to make it and hoping I user my vacation more wisely!
I'm still waiting to see the video can't wait! Great job guys!

Deadeye has rights to longest shot. Dip can at 340 yds. After many attempts, even the Hankins. Deadeye nailed it. Hats off to deadeye for his great trigger work.

I just talked to my friend that has a swinglock, I told him about the 100 & 200 yd groups and he said that he could shoot a group like that with no problem. I said, next year you go with me and show me how its done, we will see if he is up to the "Challenge".

I agree it is hard to believe groups like that are possible until you see them shot. We had a young man telling us how well he shot and we invited him over to sight guns in before season. He could not understand why his gun wasn't shooting that day. I might add he has not offered to shoot with us again.

Alabama..
The top five groups were shot with my rifles and I will get the group sizes and names of the shooters posted tomorrow as I will have to watch the video to get the group sizes and names.. At first we thought madcityhoosier took 5 place but it was brought to my attention later that while we were declaring the winners poor ole oneshot was hanging over the bridge loosing his cookies from to much beer the night before. He actually shot third place at 100. Yards with a. .500 something group and did that with a hangover and barf breath.. And you might not know but the rifle Deadeye was shooting was one of my barreled actions I shipped it to him two weeks before the shoot and he put it in a slave stock, no bedding and still kicked butt.... Deadeye is a deadeye.. Great shooter and defiantly a contender in any shooting match. My personal guns are built for the bench because that's the way I like to hunt and shoot them. I set myself up for 300 to 500 yard shots on my deer.. I can shoot them from a distance and they never know I'm there. I can reload and shoot another one or two before they decide to hi-tail it.. Ask oneshotike about the day we shot three out of four deer at 400 yards with his gun before the last one decided to go back in the woods.. It was oneshotikes longest shots he ever made. Living in Indiana and hunting for years with a slug gun, he was in heaven.. Some of my other guns are built on lighter stocks and barrel contours.. Down to about 11 pounds with a scope, rings and bases included. And those will shoot .5 MOA also. Every shooter at the challenge had great equipment and I liked Hunters rifle with the laminated stock,,,,, just tickled my fancy,, think I will build my next one on a stock like that and make it as light as possible..., but the kick will be a punishment for the guy behind the trigger.. All I can say is I had a great time and I loved meating all you guys.. Hope every one will come back next year with about 20 more of you Dougers

I would like to see the next challenge around 1 st of May. May not get lucky next year and have 85 day and 60 night weather. This was one reason that I passed. You guys were blessed with the weather, 97 degrees and 95% humidity was my fear.

That 100 yard group was my personal best and the pressure was on.. I noticed several people at the bench was actually shaking, Lorne Glass was shaking so bad he lost half his powder on the second shot. I told him to calm down and take his time, couldn't figure out what would make you so nervous until it was my turn to shoot, then my heart rate doubled, my hands were shaking and yes I was under the pressure also... Even if I didn't shoot the best group at the shoot I had one of the best times of my life. When I saw everyone talking and making friends I was just in heaven.... Thanks to a you and all that made it possible..... Jeff...

There was some good shooting going on down there. I think I shot better than normal. I just put my guns up and got my targets out of the case. I had a 1.087 at 100 yds and a 1.770 at 200 yds and was close to the middle of the pack. There was several good groups at the 100 yd mark but I shot better at 200 than I did at 100. I went to have a good time and do a lot of shooting and I did both. I really enjoyed the atmosphere both during the day and evenings. It seemed everyone was enjoying them selves. Also a lot of guys were still trying different bullets, charges ect. A couple shooters had a flyer or would have had excellent groups. I know next year I will have a better scope than the 3-9x40 vxll I was using this year. It was OK at 200 but at 300 it was shaded and a little more scope would have been nice.
