Found this website a couple weeks ago after getting tired of current muzzle loader. I wanted an accurate gun and was going to buy a new savage on armslist but I found this site and have been trying to take all this information in. so i decided to go with a 700 ml stainless that I eventually will put a PAC-nor 45 barrel on it and my dad has an old 40x 22 stock laying around. I read a post about using the hunter bolt conversion and new breach plug for 209 primer so I can use blackhorn. The new breach plug that you use is it a savage breach plug? Are the threads inside the 700 ml the same as the savage as far as breach plug? If I remember correct you have to sand down both ends of the breach plug to use the hunter bolt nose kit and when you do the PAC nor conversion you just get a new breach plug. Any help would be nice or if there is a detailed thread on this somewhere out there. Thanks

Welcome to the board! What you want to do is have Hunter send you a smokeless nose and a "smoker" breechplug which will fit right into your Remy barrel. The smokeless nose is just a tad longer so you would have to cut like two threads of the smoker breechplug to get the proper headspacing. The barrels from Pacnor and McGowen are cut to use a Savage breechplug with Hunters smokeless nose. Usually all you have to do is change the angle on the Savage breech plugs primer nose and your headspaced.

Thanks I think you are going to find once you do the Hunter conversion that a REm 700 ML with the right load is probably going to be one of the most accurate MZ's you have ever shot. Quite frankly they will probably out shoot many of the custom rigs on the market.

I have 2 700MLs upgraded with boltnose and plug, kept the .45 remmy barrels, and they are very accurate. Only gun I have that is as good is my Encore conversion and all 3 shoot same, as in less than moa. If you do the conversion you will be happy. BH209 makes it happen and a much less expensive way to go! 10 ga

Just pick my 700ml stainless 50 cal. up over weekend and it is superclean. Paid a little more than I wanted to but I think it's worth it for how clean it is. I am going to do bolt conversion and new plug from hunter to shoot the rest of my blackhorn to see how it shoots and I may use it next muzzle loader season while I save money for the new barrel. Thanks for the help and I am sure I will be asking questions in the future.

Brian, What do you need to know/ Are you wanting to stay with the factory barrel or are you considering going the smokeless route? Factory barrel kits are 114.00 shipped or 139.00 installed.

Hunter, im just looking to upgrade to your 209 bolt kit. I have the canadian kit in there which creates lots of blowby. Just not sure if I would be able to modify the bolt as needed. Thanks

Bmfox send it to Fred for the conversion. Mine is on the way back from him now and can't wait to finally put my 700mls back into action. It had become a safe queen due to all the blow back and unreliable ignition of pyrodex pellets even with a 209 conversion kit (which I had put on way back when they first came out).

doing the conversion yourself is not a big deal. Or maybe I've just been lucky on the 3 I did

Fishhawk explained it in detail here: dougsmessageboards.proboards.com/thread/7426/installation-hunters-bolt-nose-700mlAlthough the photos have been deleted, a little over half-way down the page, "excisac" posted a pdf. that you can download which has the same great photos as well as the detailed explanation.

Best thing that ever happened to a 700 was the Hunter bolt kit.I put one of those on mine and I'm very pleased with it.
