Just thought I would post a few last pictures of my progress with the project taken from introduction by Harley and Rexxer. I now have one completed alignment tool with starter incorporated. One alignment tool for top loading and no guide for starter rod to see about feasibility for field use and affect without starter rod being perfectly in line with bore. Chopped my original alignment tool because I felt bullet/sabot fit too loose and inserted new bullet channel body by compression fit. Now need too collect results from range time and see what happens. That reminds me I need to complete that cooling rod housing for ice or cold packs. Guess it’s time to shift gears. ;D Ed

Oh, my goodness! There's no way THAT is going to be mass-produced. Beautiful.

Now don't go to whoopin up on me here now OK? Why don't you just incorporate a QLA in the barrel..Like my Encore? Couldn't you machine the rifling out for the first 1/2 inch or so..Then you done have to carry one of these thing's around with you. Drop

Today I had a brain fart that was just rosy. Currently I am using another idea from another member for a bore fitting ramrod guide. Lets combine 2-ideas for the best of both worlds. There is about .008” play between the two that isn't strongly noticeable. Now I know I can have a field bullet alignment guide. ;D Drop My mini lathe can’t cut barrel QLA’s. But I do have a small chamfer on my barrel that really helps with starting a compression on the sabot before engaging the lands. So no petal shaving here. But it’s only about .090” deep. It was done by a machinist friend who had access to a much bigger lathe. Ed

I have been talking to Ed all week and we both agree that this project is petty much toast. We simplified as much as we could but the taper into the flat is the problem. The Savage and the Pacnor runs a taper of .010 per inch. The taper has to be cut an almost exact fit to barrel including the flat. I can not come up with a better way and its almost impossible to cut all the different bore diameters. If all barrels were same dia. we could do this but the way it is now it just not feasible. I apologize for getting your hopes up but until a better idea comes along its dead in the water. Here's a simplified version of the first with the bushing. The idea of the bushing was to be able to use any short starter available and to just purchase the sleeve. If some think mine and Eds look similar it because we talked about this together. Ed did all he could to help but in the end he agreed it wasn't going to work. Again, I'm sorry and I know Harley really wanted this to work for you guys.

I bet its not cheap and I would make sure he could do the job before he started hacking on my 400 dollar Pacnor! ;D I really don't know if they do anything to hurt accuracy but you better get it put in straight.
