You deserve alot of credit for hard work and sticking with it. Those big bucks are amazing at staying off the radar sometimes. Great job.

AWESOME! Being able to find a giant to target is hard enough but to finally seal the deal...wow. Congrats to you. I have been able to find a big one a couple of times over my hunting career but was never able to write that final chapter. Beautiful buck!

Congrats. Way to stay after him. I have almost the same story except another hunter harvested my buck on the opening weekend of bow season in 2009. The buck ended up being the new WI non typical state record. We were after that buck for three years and have over 50 pictures of him on our small property. I ended up becoming good friends of the hunter who bagged him and he actually gave me a replica of his rack. The rack ended up scoring 248 4/8.

Congratulations!

It is one thing to hunt deer but to go after a specific animal takes, as Dave said, perseverance and self control. Again congrats on a awesome deer and a great hunt.

He is a bruiser!! Great job. Now it looks like that tower stand has enough room for two. I'll bring my own office chair. ;D
How far did he go after the double lung at 65yds with the 195MZ?

Good that you waited. Look at the deer he became. That is hard to do however. Nice stand.

Thanks guys. I feel very lucky to have had all this work out the way it did. The area I hunt in does not normally have deer this nice and it will be tough to top. The load was a Barnes 195 knurled up in a smooth blue harvester on top of 60gr H4198. The buck only made it about 40 yards before he piled up. I believe the bullet is still in him as I cannot find an exit. Will find out tommorow when I start skinning.

I've gambled on a lot of deer only to see them end up in somebody else's truck. Once in a while though, it pays off so I keep trying.

Thanks again guys. I was wrong about the Barnes still being in him. It exited the left shoulder, but the buck didnt bleed from it so I hadnt noticed the hole. Would have been neat to recover the bullet though!

Nothing feels better than busting your arse on a project and the satisfaction when the whole plan comes together. Plan your work, work your plan as an old friend of mine used to say. This is a buck you will never forget! Nice job.

I have less than 60 acres and this area gets pounded hard by groups of 20+ guys doing drives. I've hunted this area hard (100+ hrs / year) for over 15 years and this is only the 2nd buck I've ever seen while hunting that would break 160. It doesnt happen here either, but it did. ;D My point is that you never know what might happen if you are willing to eat a few tags.

Great deer and I think it's amazing that you have the sheds to go along with him. That blind was worth every penny. If you want to find out how old he really is, send a couple of teeth here: www.deerage.com/I had a great deer that I passed last year hoping to see him again. The landowner to the South was issued depredation tags and the deer numbers are down about 90% this year. Oh well.....

Sorry to hear about your situation, something like that can put the hurt on them for years. Deer numbers have been cut in half here also. The landowners still preach "kill 'em all", and most guys seem to be trying their best to do it, while at the same time complaining that numbers are down. Combine that with all the timber dozing going on, and the future doesnt look real bright. I'd bet money this buck was either 5 or 6 years old, but I just emailed the taxi and asked him to save the teeth. Thanks for the link.

Fabulous Monster! I was laughing the entire story because it was like reading my entire season w/ the buck I took this year...same gig exactly; no trail cams in the day for 3+ years-strictly noctornal..then practice long shots, practice and more practice then he steps out at ~ the same range (on a 45 degree day no less!) Congrats and happy new year!
