My buck tags we're filled last week....And Panhandle's guide service began yesterday ;D. I went out last night and located a herd about 800yds on a ridge in the prairie. There were 25 deer with a couple decent bucks in the bunch.... They were in full swing rut so I kept an eye on them until dark. Gave my son a call and asked him if he was interested in going after them this morning... he was all for it if we could get it done by 9:00am...He's in the trucking business and had a couple trucks to start loading by then. At 6:40am @ 9 degrees below zero and a foot of snow on the ground we began the "Hicko-Reea Sneak" on them and was able to get to 312yds [ranged] before they began to get nervous and head out. I ranged him and told my son to hold about 6" over the top of his back. The buck was quartering away and looking back when he touched it off. I was a proud dad when that buck mule kicked, spun around, and nose dived no more than 10' where he started.... I let out a laugh when I saw this, Thinking about Grouse's ridiculous post yesterday when he said the 195 Barne's and the 200 SSt's are horrible deer bullets... Maybe the almighty Grouse will think before he speaks next time ....... Dropped my son off at work at 8:45 and went to his house to show the grand-kids what their daddy got... Another thing for those who worry about H4198 not working in sub-zero weather... It was 9 below zero this morning and it went
off without a hitch... Pack it tight and it has worked every time for me..... Shoot-in Sticks, a good rangefinder, 195 Barnes, and a smokeless .45 are deadly combinations in my part of the woods ;D
