The 2011 deer season here in Illinois proved once again that a 10MLII is as good as it gets when it comes to taking deer cleanly and efficiently. I was fortunate enough to take my best ever buck and a nice fat doe all in one evening this past weekend. Ranges for both were 150yds+/- and both deer dropped instantly, with complete pass throughs on each animal. Doe was dead broadside and buck was almost straight on. Load used was my old favorite: 300gr SST 60grs N120 HPH24 sabot CCI 209M
A good friend has also taken two nice bucks with his 10MLII this season. Both shots were under 100yds and both were DRTs. One was shot broadside, the other facing him, both bullets gave 100% penetration. His load is similar to mine except he uses 43grs N110.
These 4 deer plus many others in the past years have proven to us there just isn't a more effective gun or bullet for shooting our local deer. We've tried the rest but that 300gr SST just does it time and again.

It doesn't get any better than the savage in our shotgun states! Great work. Pics would be great.

Congrats on the double in one evening. I imagine there was some celebrating later on.

Yeah, just a bit! I sat for two evenings waiting to fill my doe tag w/o spoiling a chance at a good buck. When I finally decided to get the job done there wasn't anything else moving and I figured the time was right. 30 minutes later the buck stepped out and the rest is history! Been several years since I shot a buck so it was nice to finally see horns in the scope while the gun went off.

Then again if an individual screws up and whines about his mistake a few drinks are had and the individual gets help in beating himself up for his stupidity. It seems that by others helping the individual beat himself up more severely he seems to recover quicker and comes back fighting next day. Go Figure. I guess that is what defines hunting buddies as being supportive. ;D But hey 2-deer appearing not more than 30minutes apart and tagging them has got to be rewarding in itself. That says the hunter did it right. Throw in a nice set of antlers and the making of a celebration has already begun. Ed

Absolutely! We have another season this weekend, muzzle loaders only, so I'll get another chance to either be the hero or the goat,LOL!

JS,
The Savage is definitely the answer to states that don't allow rifles. I've been using a ML for probably about 8 yrs now & never looked back. My son's both use ML's as well and love them. It is a beautiful thing--Congrats on your deer's.

I switched from Shotgun to ML in 1992 when I was hunting in Ohio. Never went back to those heavy kicking in accurate slugs again and never will.
