I thought I'd better get out this a.m and beat the wind, so I headed to the property that I have permission to hunt on and made myself comfy.
I heard a shot at 7:30 a.m. and thought it sounded close to the property line. I went and checked, but couldn't see anyone. So, back to the chair I went. After sitting there for 1/2 hr. I didn't like where I was sitting (too low) so I moved the chair to some higher ground about 50' to my left. I no sooner sat down when I see a doe about 200 Yds away coming from the woods North of where I heard the shot. Then one more, then one more. The 3 does worked their way towards me, and I let 'em.
One was bigger, so I figured it was Momma and twins. Momma walked out of sight down to the water (I was overlooking a pond) and pops up even closer to me. She's about 80 yds out and starts walking from left to right. I think to myself "I hope she stops soon, if not she'll be directly downwind." She does stop, and I can see her head and about a heads' length of neck between 2 trees growing in a "V". The rest of her is obscured, and the twins are walking towards her. I flip off the safety, make sure the Savage is resting solidly on the shooting sticks, center the crosshairs on her neck and squeeze the trigger.
She disappears from view, and the twins just stand there. They stayed in the area (80 yds out) for a good 20 minutes trying to figure out why Momma decided to take a nap. The larger was a button buck, and finally they walked off, the way that they came in.
So, that's #4 for the year, 2 for me, one for my 84 yr. old aunt and one for my buddy who is deerless for the last 3 years.
I'll add pics later, gotta run and get some things done outside while the weather is still nice.
