A brief history... my son and I have been kind of drifting apart here lately. He took a job that keeps him away from his family for a week at a time... I miss him terribly. But I know my grandchildren and daughter in law suffer even worse. He has been after me to hunt with him for a while now... I just lost interest in bowhunting...Since my job wont allow much of it (55- 60 hrs a week mandatory and 15-18 hours drive time on top of that)...anyway nuff bout that. He keeps telling me how many deer he has seen daily... and passing on them... I became somewhat def to his words..ya ya ya ya. Anyway he got permission to take me in where he hunts. So I bit the bullet and got up early( I am on vacation this week with him) And went out Monday am. He put me in a stand and we hunted till about 9 and seen nothing.... But I never complained. He wanted me to go out with him again Tuesday... I didnt want to go...I wanted to sleep in since I have to get up at 4, 6 days a week anyway I MADE myself get up and go Just to spend the time together.. I really had to make myself go..I am deathly afraid off the dark..and climbing tree's...ladder stands are ok..but hang-ons..BIG FEAR ... And the tree he put me in is only about 20 inches across.. And on Sunday when he had me "preclimb " it there were 35 mph winds.... I toughed it out just to passify him...and say OK I went!..... Anyway Tuesday we were talking and he talked about a nice 10 pointer he should have shot the other day... Got there and in the stand at 640...about 730 he snapped his fingers(he was hunting only 60 yds from me and in perfect view of each other... He started using the can to call the forky in closer so I could get a shot...IT worked but he turned off at about 35 yds. I drew back on him but the sun was in my eyes and I wasnt positive about the shot...So I let down. He worked him around the area for 30 min. Just as I thought he might come back he turned and headed off. My son stopped him several times but just wouldnt come my way. As he was headed down the hill about 60 yds away he stopped and kepe looking ahead of him (to my right a bit where I couldnt see)..then he laid back one ear. I thought to myself..He see'e something..I watched and waited looked..then looked back at him and WOW all I could see was a huge neck and a whole lot of antler ..at full posture at this little gut..little guy bowed his head and left.. I thought to my self..I am gonna mess this up so I watched ..My son gave a short dominant buck grunt ..he looked ...headed like he was going to come under me... at 25 yds he put his head down ..And I drew back just in case...at 20 yds he came out right in front of me..all in the clear..perfect broadside 20 yd open shot..I stopped him he looked right at me and I dont even remember pulling the trigger on the release. But I seen the arrow hit high left shoulder . He dropped and bolted. I seen the arrow sticking out of both sides..running RIGHT underneath my sons stand. He was ALL eyeballs... The deer ran about 75 yards stopped wobbled and fell. All the way down a 75 ft deep ravine.. . My son was about to jump out of his stand...He kept smiling and telling me "'I knew you could do it" all this time he has been telling me I can put you on the deer..Just listen to me. I kept shinking ya ya ya ya. So anyway I killed the biggest deer I have ever shot. My son put him right in may lap. I kind of feel bad..he passed him and hasnt gotten one yet.. But he says he is totally happy with the way it turned out. It is so cool that he was there me to see it all and share it with me. cool can never describe it... As my own father said. You guys needed that. So if all goes well here are a few of the pic's........ Thank You from the bottom of my heart Corey!!!! ;D
